  • Patent number: 6940044
Abstract: A apparatus and method for fusing toner to media in a laser imaging device. A paraboloidal trough reflector is positioned about a linear heating element to focus and concentrate radiant energy emitted from the heating element onto a thermal spreader. The thermal spreader absorbs the radiant energy and converts it to heat. A thermoplastic fusing roller is rotatably supported about the bulb heater, the reflector and the thermal spreader. A pressure roller is supported to urge media against the fusing roller at the position of the thermal spreader. Fusing heat is conducted from the thermal spreader, through the fusing roller and to the media. The pressure roller is driven to rotate, thereby advancing the media through the fusing unit to fuse the toner thereto. Additionally, the present teachings disclose a printing device having a fusing unit with a bulb heater that emits user non-perceivable light. A mechanism is included for conveying light from the bulb heater to a location within the printing device.

  • Patent number: 6909872
Abstract: A printer device has first and second print media paths to carry paper from a sheet pickup mechanism to the printer device and then to a sheet exit opening. A third print media path carries the sheet from the sheet exit opening back to the printer device for duplex printing. A sheet diverter has first and second operating positions for allowing the sheet to pass in the first flow direction and for diverting the sheet in a second flow direction toward the printer device. A sheet pickup mechanism has a first operating position for the mechanism to pick up the sheet from a sheet dispensing tray and a second operating position in which the mechanism is part of a duplex printing path when the sheet travels in the second flow direction toward the printer device.

  • Publication number: 20040246519
Abstract: Representative embodiments provide for a control system for use with a thermal conditioning device, comprising a computer-accessible storage media including control data and a controller coupled to the thermal conditioning device and coupled to the computer-accessible storage media. The controller is configured to receive input corresponding to one of a geographic region or a language identification, and to selectively control the thermal conditioning device using at least a portion of the control data in correspondence to the input. A method for controlling a thermal conditioning device includes receiving input corresponding to one of a geographic region or a language identification, and selectively reading control data in response to the input. The method further includes selectively controlling the thermal conditioning device in response to the selectively read control data.

  • Patent number: 6776405
Abstract: Apparatus and methods for selectively picking two or more types of imaging media in an imaging apparatus having only a single pick roller while simultaneously supporting each type of imaging media on the imaging apparatus, wherein such media is ready for picking. The imaging media can be supported in respective media trays while supported on the imaging apparatus. The apparatus includes an actuating mechanism that is configured to selectively position each of the media trays relative to the pick roller, one-at-a-time, to facilitate picking by the pick roller of the selected imaging media. Methods include simultaneously supporting a plurality of types of imaging media on an imaging device having a single pick roller, and selectively picking either the first imaging media or the second imaging media from the respective media tray.

  • Patent number: 6761493
Abstract: An exemplary embodiment of the present invention provides for a printing device which is connectable to a computer. The printing device includes a user interface which includes a primary user interface button. When the printing device is not connected to the computer and the primary user interface button is actuated in an intended manner, the printing device prints a demonstration page. However, when the printing device is connected to the computer then the printing device is configured to detect the presence of the computer, and to perform a function defined within the computer when the primary user interface button is actuated in the intended manner.
