  • Publication number: 20030103472
Abstract: In wireless access control system, a method and system for minimizing power consumption at Wireless Access Point Modules WAPMs while maintain communication between said WAPMs and at least one Wireless Panel Interface Module (WPIM). When the WAPMs are not actively in use, the WAPMs minimize the power supplied to the wireless transceiver and enter a sleep state. While in the sleep state, the WAPMs periodically transmit a heartbeat signal to the WPIMs to confirm that the communication link between the WAPMs and the WPIMs is still valid. Additionally, an emergency beacon may be transmitted to the WAPMs to unlock the WAPMs to provide quick egress.

  • Publication number: 20030098780
Abstract: A wireless access control system including a Wireless Access Point Module (WAPM) that provides automatic determination of reader interface. Thus, the WAPM may be employed with any of a variety of external identity readers and may operate with the readers right away, without external reprogramming. Additionally, the WAPM may use encrypted RF transmissions in transmitting data to a Wireless Panel Interface Module (WPIM). Additionally, the WAPM may be placed in an extended unlock mode for areas where unsecured access it to be allowed for a specified time, such as during business hours.

  • Publication number: 20030098779
Abstract: In an access control system, a method and system for dynamic channel selection to select a channel for communication between a Wireless Access Point Module (WAPM) and a Wireless Panel Interface Module (WPIM). A number of communication channels are available. The WAPM attempts to communicate over a first channel and selects a second channel if the first channel is unsuccessful. The WPIM scans all the available channels so that communication may be established regardless of the channel chosen by the system. Alternatively, the available channels may be segmented into groups and an individual WAPM may be assigned to a group of channels rather than a single channel.

  • Patent number: 5936544
Abstract: A modular door access control system incorporates a plurality of wireless door modules. Access request signals are transmitted to a remote access control unit. The control unit transmits access authorizing control signals to a respective one of the modules. A newly installed module, in a selected mode, enters into communication with the unit. The unit in turn transmits an identifier to the module for use in identifying itself to the unit subsequently in response to a received access request.
