Patent number: 5129576Abstract: A mixing valve includes the volume control valve, a pressure proportioning valve, and a thermostatic valve assembly within a single modular housing. The housing is rotatably mounted in a valve body. The housing houses the proportioning valve and the thermostatic control valve. Rotation of the housing controls the total volumetric flow from the supply inlets of the valve plate at the end of the housing. The thermostatic control valve includes a pivotable lever which has a spring seated at one side and a thermally responsive wax element at the other side with the fulcrum of the lever between the spring and wax element. Control handles are mounted at the end of the valve to independently control the volume and the temperature. An annular discharge chamber surrounds the housing section which houses the proportioning valve. The discharge chamber is in fluid communication to an outlet which is located at the same end of the valve body as the hot and cold water inlet supply lines.Type: GrantFiled: October 21, 1991Date of Patent: July 14, 1992Assignee: Masco Corporation of IndianaInventors: Eric V. Pullen, deceased, James R. Nicklas, Gerald Bright

Patent number: 4033373Abstract: A valve for a single handle water faucet which includes a housing having a central chamber open at one of its ends. Hot and cold water input passages are formed in the housing and are connectable to pressurized sources of hot and cold water, respectively. Each of the input passages communicates with the housing chamber through openings in a wall thereof. A water discharge passage is formed in the housing and leads from the housing chamber to exterior of the valve. A valve cartridge subassembly is provided that is capable of insertion and removal from the housing as a unit to facilitate assembly, maintenance and repair. This subassembly carries first valve means that control water input to the housing chamber and second valve means that control the flow of water through the discharge passage. Both valve means are connected for integral movement with a manual operating handle that extends through the valve casing to exterior of the valve.Type: GrantFiled: June 3, 1976Date of Patent: July 5, 1977Assignee: Masco Corporation of IndianaInventors: Alex Manoogian, Eric V. Patent number: 3964514Abstract: A single handle hot and cold water mixing and flow control faucet valve of the type wherein the operating handle is reciprocally movable along its own axis to vary flow volume passing through the valve and rotatable about its own axis to vary the proportions of hot and cold water passing through the valve. Stop means are provided on the valve body and operating handle to prevent axial movement of the handle to and from the off position unless the handle is in a cold water only rotational position and to prevent rotation of the handle in one direction from this position. Additional adjustable stop means may be provided to limit the extent of possible rotational movement from a cold water only position towards a hot water only position.Type: GrantFiled: July 1, 1974Date of Patent: June 22, 1976Assignee: Masco Corporation of IndianaInventors: Alex Manoogian, Eric V.
