    Abstract: A compact, lightweight, portable light source unit for an instrument used to visualize an interior of a hollow cavity is provided. The unit includes a housing having a connection means for removably coupling the unit to a light input post or the like of the instrument and a light emitting diode (LED) powered by at least one battery mounted within the housing. The unit also includes means for controlling or dissipating heat generated by operation of the LED.
