  • Patent number: 6554489
Abstract: A fiber optic cable guide is disclosed for holding fiber optic cable in a bend without violating the minimum bend radius. The guide is a removably attachable to the fiber optic cable. Duplex embodiments and related methods of use are also disclosed.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: March 28, 2001
Date of Patent: April 29, 2003
    Assignee: Corning Cable Systems LLC
Inventors: Eric W. Kent, Darrell R. Childers, Hieu V. Tran
  • Patent number: 6540410
Abstract: A fiber optic connector for mounting on a panel comprises an outer housing defining an interior passage extending longitudinally therethrough, and at least one mounting element connected with the outer housing for mounting the connector onto the panel. The connector also includes a connector insert subassembly inserted through the rear end of the outer housing into the interior passage thereof. The connector insert subassembly is slidable longitudinally within the outer housing, and comprises an inner housing defining an inner passage extending longitudinally therethrough, and a ferrule holder and ferrule mounted within the inner passage of the inner housing.

  • Patent number: 5966485
Abstract: A method for providing core protrusion relative to cladding in an optical fiber mounted in a fiber optic connector includes the step of etching the end face of the fiber with a solution which preferentially removes the cladding from around the core of the optical fiber so that the core protrudes beyond the cladding. Additional steps may include fine polishing the end of the core in order to provide a relatively even end on the core and/or irradiating the end of the optical fiber with a laser in order to smooth the end of the core, thereby facilitating contact with the end of the second optical fiber in a fiber optic connector. As a result, according to the present invention a fiber optic connector with a protruding core is also provided. The core protrudes beyond the end of the cladding to improve contact and thus reduce reflectance when mated with a second fiber optic connector.
