  • Publication number: 20160196840
Abstract: A magnetic stack is disclosed. The magnetic stack includes a magnetically responsive lamination that includes a ferromagnetic free layer, a synthetic antiferromagnetic (SAF) structure, and a spacer layer positioned between the ferromagnetic free layer and the SAF structure. The magnetically responsive lamination is separated from a sensed data bit stored in an adjacent medium by an air bearing surface (ABS). The stack also includes a first antiferromagnetic (AFM) structure coupled to the SAF structure a predetermined offset distance from the ABS, and a second AFM structure that is separated from the first AFM structure by a first shield layer.

  • Patent number: 9384762
Abstract: The implementations disclosed herein provide for a spin transport sensor including a synthetic antiferromagnet (SAF) adjacent a shield element. The SAF extends to an air-bearing surface (ABS) and provides a current path from a current source to an ABS-region of a spin conductor layer. Spin current diffuses from the spin conductor layer to an adjacent free layer, which generates a measurable electrical voltage in a free layer of the spin transport sensor. The SAF serves as both a magnetic shield and a spin injector to the spin conductor layer.

  • Patent number: 9361910
Abstract: A reader includes top and bottom reader stacks that are offset relative to each other in a downtrack direction and disposed between a top shield and a bottom shield. Top side shields surround the top reader stack in a crosstrack direction, and bottom side shields surround the bottom reader stack in the crosstrack direction. A middle shield is between the top and bottom reader stacks and the top and bottom side shields. The middle shield includes a common electrical conductive path coupled to the top and bottom reader stacks. A middle lead is coupled to an edge of the middle shield.

  • Patent number: 9300902
Abstract: A system and method for time-shifted viewing of broadcast television programs is disclosed. Simultaneous recording and playback are provided by using buffer storage as the source and destination of compressed or uncompressed digital video/audio programs, Full VCR-like control is provided for all playback within the buffer storage. Playback and control of recorded programs may be initiated by the user at any time after initiation of the broadcast program with simultaneous continuous recording of the ongoing live broadcast. Larger archival storage and removable is also provided for storing and building a library of programs. Viewer playback control data may be stored as part of the program or used as edit points prior to archival. Numerous options are provided for features such as continuous automatic recording in a circular buffer fashion, program archival, editing, Internet interfaces, multiple-channel recording and more.

  • Publication number: 20160009391
Abstract: A low aspect ratio flying wing provides aerodynamic stability throughout the flight envelope with improved aerodynamic efficiency. Insufficient stability and reduced aerodynamic efficiency typical of low aspect ratio flying wings is improved through wing design and proper application and placement of horizontal stabilizers and boundary layer control. Lateral asymmetric boundary layer manipulation is employed to alter flying wing orientation in flight. Lateral extension and retraction of the main structure wing optimizes efficiency. This novel flying wing is not found in literature or “prior art” and provides improvement in aerodynamic stability and efficiency over previous designs. Given the large amount of research, literature, patents and activity in the field since the 1930's and the absence of a practical design indicates the non-obvious nature of these disclosures. In addition, those skilled in the art teach away from present disclosures failing to realize the better than predicted advantages.
