  • Publication number: 20080078005
Abstract: The instant disclosure describes the application of genetic engineering techniques to produce cellulase in plants. Cellulase coding sequences operably linked to promoters active in plants may be transformed into the nuclear genome and/or the plastid genome of a plant. As cellulases may be toxic to plants, chemically-inducible or wound-inducible promoters may be employed. Additionally, the expressed cellulases may be targeted to vacuoles or other cellular organelles.

  • Publication number: 20060191852
Abstract: The present invention is directed a multifunctional polymer capable of inhibiting both calcium carbonate and calcium phosphate scale. The multifunctional polymer contains at least one monomer unit from each of four groups: dicarboxylic acids, mono-carboxylic acids, nonionic monomers, and sulfonated or sulfated monomers. The polymer also inhibits many other alkaline earth scales, such as calcium sulfate scale and provides stabilization of minerals such as iron, zinc and manganese. The polymer is especially effective in highly stressed systems that contain high electrolyte concentrations and have a high number of cycles of concentration.

  • Patent number: 7010544
Abstract: An independent method for configuring and extracting detailed manufacturing knowledge for fabricating an object, tool or part and storing the data to a data file or data structure. The method includes extracting design criteria from a data file and parsing criteria into elemental manufacturing building modules independent of the data file and storing the captured criteria data file. Additional manufacturing knowledge is then inputted into the meta-data file not contained in the data file by extracting manufacturing knowledge from a database housing manufacturing knowledge and incorporating this knowledge into data file which is capable of being translated to Numerical Control machine language.

  • Publication number: 20050211957
Abstract: Alternative inhibitors that offer an improvement over tolyltriazole in inhibiting yellow metal corrosion. The dithiocarbamate compounds and their salts were compared to that of tolyltriazole under identical conditions. These comparative tests were conducted in common corrosion testing systems, using both electrochemical corrosion cells and pilot cooling rigs, using various water conditions. The test methods included electrochemical studies such as linear polarization resistance, open circuit potential versus time, Tafel and cyclic polarization.

  • Publication number: 20050081259
Abstract: The present invention provides novel DNA sequences coding for protoporphyrinogen oxidase (protox) enzymes from soybean, wheat, cotton, sugar beet, oilseed rape, rice, sorghum, and sugar cane. In addition, the present invention teaches modified forms of protox enzymes that are herbicide tolerant. Plants expressing herbicide tolerant protox enzymes taught herein are also provided. These plants may be engineered for resistance to protox inhibitors via mutation of the native protox gene to a resistant form or they may be transformed with a gene encoding an herbicide tolerant form of a plant protox enzyme. The present invention further provides shuffled DNA molecules encoding protox enzymes having enhanced tolerance to a herbicide that inhibits the protox activity encoded by a template DNA molecule from which the shuffled DNA molecule is derived.

  • Patent number: 6497601
Abstract: A collapsible three-dimensional construction in the form of a cube is described. The construction is formed of paperboard, pasteboard, cardboard plastic or similar material. The cube may be formed from a single sheet of die-cut material. Four of the faces of the cube include perforation lines to allow the cube to be collapsed into a flattened cube when twisted about a central axis in a first direction. Two elastic members are attached to tensioning members inside of the cube and serve to hold the cube in an erected position when twisted in a second, opposite direction. The assembly of the cube from the blank requires only a single fastening of one portion of the construction to another. The surfaces of the cube may be easily printed with advertising or promotional material.

  • Patent number: 6439221
Abstract: The present invention is drawn to a method and apparatus for providing a portable and 100% preassembled grill. More particularly, the invention is drawn to providing a grill having two pairs of pivoting legs that collapse to have wheels at one end and handle means at the other for easy shipping and consumer handling, but which assembles without tools. In a collapsed state, all of the support legs extend toward the rear of the grill and, in an erected state, an upper part of one pair of support legs is pivoted to the front of the grill and pivotally connected to the other set of legs at a central part. An upper part of this other set of legs engages a catch at a rear of the grill without tools to form a rigid, raised support base for the grill.

  • Patent number: 6435305
Abstract: A stackable step stool having a platform and obtusely angled legs where the design of the stackable step stool allows the stackable step stools to be stacked on top of one another in an alternating manner. The platform is typically rectangular with rounded corners. A raised ridge surrounds the top surface of the platform. The support frame consists of two inverted U-shaped legs. Each of the inverted U-shaped legs has a center portion with two obtusely angled leg portions extending from the center portion. The center portions of the inverted U-shaped legs attach to opposite sides of the platform. The obtusely angled legs are angled away from the platform such that the stackable step stools can be stacked on top of one another in an alternating manner. The stackable step stools are stacked on top of one another with the upper stackable step stool being displaced by at least the width of the legs. Additional stackable step stools can be stacked on top of the stack in an alternating manner.

  • Patent number: 6305750
Abstract: A backrest for a chair comprising two parts constructed and arranged to interlock around chair back supports. Each part is preferably molded, and has a rib structure which provides positioning means for assembly on the supports. A hook and hook receiver arrangement provide a locking means for firm attachment of the parts to the supports. Decorative cushions can be applied to the parts before or after locking them to the supports. The invention is not limited to folding chairs.

  • Patent number: 6273333
Abstract: A combination coaster and cup holder is constructed from a planar panel formed from thin, flexible material. The panel has an upper surface and a lower surface, a top edge, a bottom edge, a first side edge and a second side edge. A slit extends from the upper surface to the lower surface between the top edge and the bottom edge, and extends from a point adjacent the first side edge to a point adjacent the second side edge. The slit has an upper edge, a lower edge, a first end and a second end. The slit has a length equal to one half the circumference of a tapered cup measured at a point between the upper rim of the cup and the base. The panel is folded along the slit and the upper edge is separated from the lower edge and the cup is introduced between the edges form a cup holder located about the circumference of the cup. The cup holder will fit frictionally about the cup between the rim and the base, adapting automatically to the taper of the cup.
