  • Patent number: 4512380
Abstract: The invention relates to apparatus for the transverse and/or longitudinal machining of wooden workpieces, comprising a workpiece carriage for mounting a workpiece or a plurality of workpieces thereon and adapted to be displaced in the direction of the X-axis of a spatial X-Y-Z coordinate system along at least one transverse machining tool itself adapted to be displaced in the Y- and/or Z-axis for the machining operation. The object of the invention is to provide an apparatus of the above indicated type, which is of simple construction and by means of which the transverse machining of a workpiece can be carried out in a single mounting position of the workpiece and at a single machine location. In order to attain this object, the invention provides that the workpiece carriage comprises a mounting table adapted to be tilted about an axis parallel to the X-axis.

  • Patent number: 4234241
Abstract: A 45.degree. rotary mirror illuminates a detector through an optical colling system and while facing downwards picks up a direct or primary line scan of objects located below in the plane of scanning. While facing upwards, the rotary mirror picks up a secondary line scan indirectly from below by reflection from a non-revolving plane mirror at an acute angle to the axis of rotation of the rotary mirror, which angle corresponds to the base angle of stereo scanning when the primary line scans are correlated with corresponding secondary line scans that respectively precede them by an interval corresponding to the travel time of the movable craft upon which the line scanner is carried along a base line distance determined by the inclination of the non-revolving plane mirror. That inclination is adjustable about a hinge axis perpendicular to the direction of travel of the carrying aircraft or spacecraft.

  • Patent number: 4002193
Abstract: At least one workpiece is rotated synchronously with a model in a contour-copying lathe. A feeler engages the model and is linked to a tool similarly engageable with the workpiece so that as the feeler rides up and down and travels along the model the synchronously displaced tool similarly shapes the workpiece. Those preshaped regions on the model corresponding to the surfaces on the workpiece which are not to be shaped are provided with extensions so that the tool is lifted from the workpiece at these preshaped surfaces.

  • Patent number: 3960188
Abstract: A contour-copying machine in which a plurality or workpieces are spanned between headstocks and tailstocks and rotatable synchronously about respective parallel axes parallel to the rotation axis of a pattern with a feeler roller engaging the pattern and a plurality of tools linked to the feeler roller cutting the contour of the pattern into the workpieces is programmed so as separately to cut longitudinally extending planar surfaces in the workpieces and to form rounded contours along these workpieces. To this end the machine is indexed through a plurality of angular positions each corresponding to one of the planar surfaces and the pattern and workpieces are restrained from rotating as these longitudinally extending planar surfaces cut into them. Once all of the longitudinally extending planar surfaces are formed, the workpiece is rotated continuously and the tools cut the remaining rounded surfaces in these workpieces.

  • Patent number: 3942566
Abstract: An apparatus for shaping a wooden workpiece according to a template configuration has a carriage displaceable on a track parallel to a guide edge of a template clamped on a table to one side of the track. A workpiece is clamped to a table to the opposite side of the track. A slide is displaceable on the carriage transverse to the track and carries on one end a roller engaging the guide edge of the template and on its other end a driven tool for cutting the shape of the template into the workpiece. The slide is urged toward the workpiece so that virtually no lateral force is exerted against the workpiece, the guide edge acting as a stop positively determining the transverse position of the slide. Another template can support a second feeler roller which is connected via a chain or the like to the tool to raise and lower this tool according to the guide edge on the second template for two-sided cutting of the workpiece.

  • Patent number: 3942288
Abstract: A succession of wood workpieces is displaced by a conveyor past a plurality of finishing stations with the grain of the workpieces extending perpendicular to the transport direction. An abrasive surface of a finishing tool is displaced over the workpiece parallel to the grain direction at a peripheral speed equal to about 150 times the advance speed of the workpieces. These workpieces are wood chair seats formed with a surface depression and the abrasive surface is a sanding belt spanned over a vertically displaceable soft drum or cushion. The soft support for the sanding belt is displaced vertically by a cam arrangement to conform the path of travel of the sanding surface to the workpiece. The sanding region of one station is staggered transversely to the transport direction with respect to the other stations.
