  • Patent number: 6437266
Abstract: A contact arm assembly is provided having an electrical contact for making and breaking an electrical current, a contact arm for supporting the electrical contact, and a bond surface on the contact arm that is conditioned for improving the bond between the electrical contact and contact arm. Also provided is an electrical circuit breaker that utilizes the improved contact arm assembly. The bond surface of the contact arm is provided with pyramid-shaped serrations that serve to more uniformly distribute the electrical current during brazing, provide multiple areas of localized current constriction during brazing, and provide collector pockets for accumulating the molten braze alloy during brazing. The uniform distribution of electrical current during brazing serves to generate a uniform temperature gradient across the braze area for uniform melting of braze alloy.

  • Patent number: 4993848
Abstract: Two propeller shafts are disposed coaxially one within another. A collar of the inner propeller shaft grips into the hollow outer propeller and supports the inner shaft axially over axial friction bearing elements. The axial friction bearing elements are surrounded by a shaft connecting piece, which is divided in the axial direction and at least one half of which can be removed radially, in order to create access to the axial friction bearing elements. By way of the axial friction bearing elements, axial forces of the inner propeller shaft reach the hollow outer propeller shaft and, from the latter, by way of further axial friction bearing elements, further reach a bearing housing, which is preferably also divided in the longitudinal direction.

  • Patent number: 4514099
Abstract: The invention relates to a hydrodynamic bearing assembly in which a relatively broad bearing is divided into two bearings (2, 3) placed axially side by side. Both bearings are connected together to an inner bearing member (1) which is mounted to swivel universally over a spherical sector surface (16) in a cylindrical bore (18) of a surrounding housing. Between the bearing surfaces of both bearings (2, 3) there is provided in the bearing bore (6) a flowing fluid medium passage shared by the bearings, such as an annular groove (10). Through this passage the outlet flow area for the flowing fluid medium is doubled and length of the flow path in the bearing bore (6) reduced by one-half. Concurrently, a more perfect load pressure equalization is achieved on both bearings (2, 3) owing to the ball-joint-type universal bearing arrangement between the inner bearing member (1) and the housing (20).

  • Patent number: 4369668
Abstract: An axial thrust compensation system in high speed helical gear engagement includes a thrust collar fixed to a shaft which carries a gear. The collar includes a peripheral groove. Another gear carrying shaft includes a disc element which engages the thrust collar groove. Axial thrust generated in the respective gears and the shafts due to the driving engagement between the gears will be transferred between the shafts by the collar and disc. In one embodiment, the collar and/or disc is formed in one piece with its shaft, while in another embodiment the collar and/or disc is bolted to its shaft. A further embodiment provides a pair of disc shaped collars spaced from opposite sides of one gear with the collars framing a pair of disc elements fixed to the other shaft.

  • Patent number: 4204974
Abstract: Method and apparatus for encapsulating radioactive plastic wastes, particularly radioactively contaminated ion exchange filter material containing water, in bituminous solidification substances, by drying the radioactive waste separate and apart from the bituminous substance, introducing regulated amounts of dry radioactive waste into the bituminous substance and kneading the mixture at a temperature of 120.degree. C. or lower to encapsulate the dry radioactive waste by the mechanical action of the kneading, and pouring the kneaded, encapsulated radioactive plastic waste into a container. Undesired decomposition with discharge of pollutants into the atmosphere are avoided.

  • Patent number: 4108018
Abstract: A gear drive with single-helix gears in which a pair of such gears mesh with each other and are formed along the length thereof with one or more grooves of a depth equal to or not substantially greater than the tooth height and provided with lubricant-stripping means, e.g. deflectors, to remove the lubricant which passes into these grooves. The grooves of the two gears are aligned in planes perpendicular to the axes of the gears.

  • Patent number: 4022083
Abstract: A drive system securable to a base for connecting a pair of generally parallel drive shafts to a single output shaft has a rigid nondeformable housing supported on the base by primary supports lying in a plane perpendicular to the rotation axes of pinion and drive gears rotatably carried in this housing. Each of the pinion gears is connected through a flexible coupling to one of the drive shafts and the drive gear is connected to the output shaft. The supports are deformable so that stresses which normally misalign the pinion and drive gears are compensated for outside of the housing by these supports and the drive gears remain in perfect alignment. The output shaft may extend completely through the housing and be journaled in front of the housing in a fixed bearing, and the primary supports lying in the symmetry plane of the housing may be gudgeons received in journals and permitting tipping of the housing.
