  • Patent number: 4364717
Abstract: An apparatus for turbocharging an internal combustion engine, and which is characterized by the ability to avoid excessive heat transfer to the bearings and any other heat sensitive components. In the preferred embodiment, the lubricating oil for the bearings in the turbocharger housing is directed through a passageway in the bearing shaft and is discharged onto the end wall of the bearing housing in a circular pattern, to thereby cool the end wall and minimize heat transfer from the turbine to the bearings in the housing. Also, the end wall of the bearing housing is spaced from the adjacent rear wall of the turbine housing to define a cooling air gap therebetween, and apertures are provided in the housing for permitting air to flow through the cooling gap to cool the opposing surfaces of the two adjacent walls and thereby minimize heat transfer therebetween.

  • Patent number: 4304975
Abstract: An improved means for mounting the induction coil of an inductively heated, rotatable godet about the magnetic core thereof so as to prevent internal overheating and preferably also to avoid any movement or play between the core and the coil as caused by heat expansion and vibration during operation of the godet. The improvement comprises cooling means for cooling the laminated pack acting as the magnetic core and for thermally isolating the pack from the coil and outer godet shell or casing, said cooling means including at least one hose-like tube wound around the laminated pack with means to conduct a fluid coolant therethrough. An elastic intermediate member is preferably introduced at some point between the coil and magnetic core in order to compensate for any unequal thermal expansion of these elements in the axial and/or radial directions.

  • Patent number: 4223849
Abstract: An improved clamping chuck for use in a thread winding device wherein a bobbin carrier is removably mounted and held on an expandable chucking spindle by means of swingable, elongated clamping elements which are distributed about the outer circumferential mantle of the chucking spindle and move radially outwardly and inwardly of the mantle surface through openings defining each clamping position. The improvement comprises a combination of these special clamping elements with means to apply two torque-producing forces causing each clamping element to swing into its clamping position outwardly of the mantle, preferably under a spring tensioned force, and another force transmitting means to counteract the torque-producing forces to return the clamping elements into their retracted or release position below the mantle surface in order to change bobbin carriers.
