    Abstract: The present invention relates to a method and an apparatus for measuring, setting and controlling longitudinal and lateral register as well as parallelness of the printing register in a multicolor printing machine. To reduce waste, the longitudinal and circumferential register is sensed on a print web (D) at one side and parallelness of the print images among one another is determined at the opposite other side. To this end an independent second measuring device is preferably used. The data obtained are used for automatically controlling the printing register in lateral and circumferential direction as well as print parallelness.
