  • Publication number: 20080041261
Abstract: Wireless blasting systems present significant technical challenges. Discloses herein are blasting apparatuses, and methods for their use, that employ a network of blasting machines and detonators, each detonator capable of wireless communication not only with the blasting machines, but also with other detonators, so that those detonators (and associated components) that are “blind” to communication with the blasting machines can remain functional in the blasting network. Importantly, the wireless signal receiving, processing and transmitting means associated with each detonator is powered by a supply insufficient to cause inadvertent detonator initiation unless a specific FIRE signal is transmitted by a blasting machine, and received by the detonator.

  • Patent number: 7327550
Abstract: A blasting system includes a wireless link between a blast controller and a plurality of electronic detonators. Each detonator includes a respective electronic initiator and an explosive charge. Charge storage devices of the initiators are chargeable by a carrier of a first signal having a first frequency (f1) in the order of 400 MHz-500 MHz and which is broadcasted by the blast controller. Each initiator further includes logic circuitry driven by a clock signal which is derived from the first signal and having a clock frequency of about 4 kHz, which is substantially less than the first frequency.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: October 1, 2002
Date of Patent: February 5, 2008

  • Patent number: 7100511
Abstract: A detonator assembly (10) comprising a housing (12) disclosed and claimed. The assembly comprises an main circuit (11) comprising an electrically operable fuse (16) located in the housing. The assembly further comprises at least a first redundancy circuit (13) wherein at least one element of the main circuit is duplicated (18 for 16) also located in the housing. The invention also includes within its scope an initiation system (42) comprising at least one level of redundancy which may be in one or more or all of a blast controller (24), a harness (40) and detonator assemblies 10.1 to 10.n forming part of the system.

  • Patent number: 6082264
Abstract: There is disclosed and claimed a wired network of electrically operable detonators. The network includes a plurality of wired detonator assemblies each including a detonator. The wired assemblies being connected into the network by connectors 10 each including at least one conductive spigot formation 16 removably receivable in a socket 32 which is at least partially lined with a conductive element 34. In the preferred embodiment each connector 10 includes first and second connector halves 12 and 28. The first and second connector halves each includes a body 14, 30 and part of a commercially available connector. The bodies in use forming a water-tight housing for the mating connector parts.
