  • Patent number: 6254326
Abstract: In a screw (1) for mutual fastening of two components (2 and 3) there is provided a shank (4) with a thread (6), an unthreaded shank portion (7) and a screw head (5). The end region (8) of the thread (6) adjacent to the unthreaded shank portion (7) tapers with constant thread pitch (S), and so the tapering end region (8) of the thread (6) forms a kind of frustoconical envelope surface (10) upon rotation of the screw (1). During setting of the screw (1) and during over-torquing thereof, the end region (8) of the thread (6) acts as a kind of milling cutter and makes a frustoconical opening (13) in the component (3). The thread flights in the tapering end region (8) can then be braced against the wall of this opening (13), so that mutual contact pressure between the components (2 and 3) is possible despite over-torquing of the screw (1).

  • Patent number: 6179538
Abstract: In a screw for fastening metal sections (10) to a substructure (11), a shank (2) is provided with a threaded portion (5) and a drive portion (3) for applying a driving device. The portion of the shank (2) adjacent to the drive portion (3) flares conically toward the drive portion (3). The thread (5) engages in the substructure (11), whereby the conical portion (6) is pulled into contact with the section (10) and presses it against the substructure (11). By virtue of appropriate friction, the torque is increased to an appropriate level, and so torque-dependent stopping of the driving action can be achieved.

  • Patent number: 6164887
Abstract: A screw comprises a shank (2) and a head provided with a tool drive (6). The shank is provided with a thread (4), and at its free end has a boring part (5). The head (3), measured in axial direction of the screw (1), has a height (LK), which is smaller than the pitch (S) of the thread (4) formed on the shank (2). An external tool drive (6) is formed on the head (3).

  • Patent number: 6120225
Abstract: A lamina-shaped borepiece (4) for a self-boring fastening element (1) is provided at its front side with cutting edges (5,6) flanked by grooves (7,8) that extend approximately parallel thereto. Indents (9,10) with set-back cutting edges (11,12) are provided in the area of both front cutting edges (5,6), so that a kind of stepped borer is created. The indents (9,10) are formed in the area of the axial extension of the grooves (7,8).

  • Patent number: 5472303
Abstract: A blind rivet-type clamping fastener includes a deformable sleeve, a drift section insertable into or connectable to the sleeve, and a drilling section. The latter is held on either the sleeve or a drift section so that it can be axially moved towards the free end of the fastener or removed therefrom upon exertion of an axial force onto the drilling section during the setting of the clamping fastener.

  • Patent number: 5383753
Abstract: A rivet fastener has a rivet housing and a shaft threaded into the rivet housing. The shaft has a head formed at a distal end thereof and being of a greater diameter than the threaded portion of the shaft. The head of the shaft supports a drilling element. The rivet housing is formed of two sections along the axis thereof, of which one section is of a greater diameter than the other one. The section of the greater diameter forms a borehole diameter of the drilling element.

  • Patent number: 5213459
Abstract: A self-drilling connecting unit includes a shaft and a platelet-like cutting tool attachable to the shaft in a form- and/or force-fitted manner. The platelet-like cutting tool has a platelet-like protrusion lying in the plane of the cutting tool in its end region facing the shaft. The end region of the shaft, which bears the cutting tool, has a central opening. The protrusion of the cutting tool is insertable into the opening of the shaft and is braced by a pressure seat in the opening against two diametrically opposed boundaries of the inner wall of the opening whereby a sufficient mount and an exactly axis-parallel alignment of the cutting tool against the shaft are provided.

  • Patent number: 5183357
Abstract: A rivet fastener includes a threaded spindle having at a free end thereof a drill bit and an external casing having a stop flange and a sleeve portion with an internal thread corresponding to that of the spindle and receiving the spindle. The casing has a plurality of set-breaking grooves extending parallel to the axis of the casing. The threads and the drill bit are formed such that the threads run in a direction opposite to that of a drilling rotation.
