  • Patent number: 5725466
Abstract: A peripherally drilled roll for the heat treatment of web material, includes a roll body having axially parallel drilled passages disposed just beneath its surface for guiding a heat-carrying fluid, at least one flange pin bolted to the front end of said roll body having a central bore, supply and discharge passages for the heat-carrying fluid in the flange pin, and connecting passages in the flange pin for the axially parallel drilled passages, wherein the supply and discharge passages are formed as blind holes meeting in the flange pin and produce the flow connection between the central bore and the front end ports of the axially parallel drilled passages, and the connecting passages of the axially parallel drilled passages are configured in the flange pin as blind holes meeting therein.

  • Patent number: 5351399
Abstract: The present invention is a method for forming grooves in rolls which are suitable for working web-like materials, wherein a laser source directs a laser beam and an aligned conduit directs a pressurized gas jet onto the roll surface, the roll material thus being removed in a sharply defined area and a groove thereby being formed.

  • Patent number: 5072497
Abstract: A glazing or calendering roll includes a roll body having a flange journal at each end of the roll body and peripheral passages formed near the roll surface in the roll body for conducting a fluid heat or cold carrier through the roll. The roll has a central bore with large diameter. In the central bore, a displacement body is arranged in such a manner that between the inner wall of the central bore and the outer wall of the displacement body an annular gap is formed for conducting the fluid heat or cold carrier therethrough.

  • Patent number: 4920623
Abstract: A heatable glazing or calendering roll has a roll body, peripheral bores in the roll body for the passage of a fluid heat carrier, a flange journal for each end of the roll body, supply and discharge conduits for the fluid heat carrier in at least one flange journal and cutouts for the distribution of the fluid heat carrier from the supply conduits to the peripheral bores and from the peripheral bores to the discharge conduits; the cutouts are disposed in the end faces of the or each flange journal and are bordered on the opposite side by the planar end face of the roll body.

  • Patent number: 4730374
Abstract: In a heatable glazing or calendering roll having a cylindrical hollow body with flange necks for each end of the cylindrical hollow body, a displacement body disposed in the cylindrical hollow body and supply and discharge lines for a fluid heat carrier flowing through the annular gap between the displacement body and the cylindrical hollow body, by selecting a suitable material for the flange necks and/or by corresponding thermal insulation between cylindrical hollow body and flange necks it is achieved that the flange necks on heating up of the cylindrical hollow body expand less than the cylindrical hollow body and thereby bending moments are generated in the cylindrical hollow body which counteract the oxbow deformation.

  • Patent number: 4607420
Abstract: In an elongated heatable roller for a machine for manufacturing tape-like material, such as a paper machine, and comprising an outer sleeve and a displacement cylindrical member disposed in the outer sleeve so that a clearance for passing a heat-conducting fluid is formed between the outer sleeve and the displacement member. Imbalance-compensating masses are provided for compensating for imbalance occurring on the roller and causing deflections of the roller. The imbalance-compensating masses are attached to the inner surface of the displacement member and preferably midway between the ends thereof.

  • Patent number: 4503626
Abstract: An arrangement for manufacturing or treating a web material comprises a rotary hollow roll having a hollow jacket which has an axis, a central region around which a web material moves, and two axial end regions which are free from the web material, two bearing pins each supporting said jacket in a respective one of said end regions, at least one of which bearing pins has a passage for a heat-carrying fluid, a displacing member located inside the jacket and extending concentrically to and over the greater part of the jacket so as to form an annular gap between the displacing member and the jacket and communicating with the passage for heat-carrying fluid to supply the latter, and a heat-insulating element arranged at an inner side of each of the end regions of the jacket for reducing heat transfer from the heat-carrying fluid to the jacket.
