  • Patent number: 6990674
Abstract: A CD or DVD disc processor, as shown, a recorder or duplicator (it could be a printer) has a pivoting picker mechanism having only one degree of freedom when driven for handling the discs for recording and stacking recorded discs. The picker mechanism picks the disc from the top of a supply stack of blank discs and places the disc on a loading tray of a recorder. The disc is moved into the recorder drive and removed after recording. The picker mechanism then picks the disc from the tray apparatus, the tray is retracted into the recorder, and the picker mechanism pivots beyond the tray to deposit the completed discs on a completed stack storage space below the tray level.

  • Publication number: 20050160435
Abstract: A tray is mounted in a framework for sliding between extended and retracted positions, and has a separate drive adjacent each of the opposite sides of the tray. The drives on the opposite sides of the tray are effected through friction clutches so that one of the drives can be stationary and slipping while the other drive continues to move the tray. Reference stops are provided to orient the tray against the stops each time the tray is retracted.

  • Publication number: 20050069344
Abstract: A disc copying or recording device and a disc label printer are mounted in a common assembly, and include a printhead moveable along a guide shaft on a frame. A disc transport carriage is mounted on the same guide shaft as the printhead, can be moved along this guide shaft for picking up discs in a storage area, moving a disc to a tray or support used for recording and then to a disc tray or support for printing, and moving a finished disc to a finished disc storage region. The carriage has an arm with a disc picker that can be moved to hold and release discs in a desired location. • Patent number: 6695445
Abstract: A printer is arranged to be self propelled for movement on a surface of a sheet on which printing is to take place. The printer is independently driven, while the sheet is held stationary, and does not have to be fed the sheet. The sheet can be oriented in a home position and indexed relative to a frame carrying the printer so that the printhead on the printer will print a line at a time perpendicular to the direction of travel of the frame.

  • Patent number: 6447181
Abstract: A printer for printing onto substrates includes a housing that mounts a movable carrier for the substrates such as a compact disc or digital versatile disc. The carrier for the substrate is driven relative to the printhead while printing takes place, and a platen is provided to urge the substrate toward the printhead for printing and to a position to space the substrate from the printhead when raised surface areas of the substrate underlie the printhead. The force applied by the platen can be varied as a function of the position of the substrate as well, in addition the carrier can be driven at a variable speed selected as a function of the length of the line being printed.

  • Patent number: 6354502
Abstract: A label for a component is provided with a continuous color tone background at least in segments of the label that can be detected as to a configuration using selected colored light sources which reflect from the different color tones of the label. A sensor can be used for discriminating between the reflection patterns from the light sources. A continuous color tone on the label changing smoothly from one color to others is applied to make a uniform shading from one color at one end of the label to another color at a second end, with various colors between the two ends. As an added feature, a number of black appearing strips forming a bar code can be provided on the label, with some of the strips reflecting infrared light and others not reflecting infrared light, so an infrared detector can be utilized for determining the pattern of the bar code for further identification of the labeled component. The bar code pattern will not be identifiable with the naked eye.

  • Patent number: 6302601
Abstract: A printer has a substrate carrier that is a planar membrane driven through the printer solely by friction drives. The planar membrane is completely removable from the printer, and can be adapted to support a substrate of desired configuration and held against locating surfaces while it is being driven through the printer by the friction drive. The friction drive comprises at least one set of rollers including a drive roller on one side of the carrier and a resiliently mounted roller on the other, and also includes a rotating resilient platen that is resiliently urged against a printhead for providing a reaction force for the friction drive while printing occurs.

  • Patent number: 6241332
Abstract: Information is printed onto an identification card using an ink jet printer. The ink jet printer includes a tray which moves the card in a first direction and a print head which moves relative to the card in a second direction. An ink receiving surface may be deposited onto the card prior to ink jet printing. A magnetic recording head is optionally included in the printer whereby information may be magnetically recorded onto the card.

  • Patent number: 6148722
Abstract: A thermal printer for printing onto circular objects includes a housing that mounts a platen and a carrier for the circular object, and a separate removable and latchable carriage carrying the printhead and positionable on the housing to retain the printhead in a fixed location. The carrier for the circular object is driven relative to the printhead while printing takes place. The platen, carrier and circular object are urged against the printhead as the carrier moves. An actuator is used for moving the platen and carrier with a variable force to vary the force of the circular object against the printhead so that the force is increased when the length of the line of printing increases to span the circular object.

  • Patent number: 6022429
Abstract: A lamination system includes a supply and a take-up roll carrying a web therebetween. The web carries a laminate. The laminate is applied to a printed card as the card moves between two rollers. At least one roller may be heated and responsively pressed against the printed card to cause adhesion of the laminate to the printed card.

  • Patent number: 5941522
Abstract: An identification card processor receives cards from a hopper, and passes them through a graphic imager for printing, and either prior to printing or subsequently the cards are positioned on an index table that permits moving the cards about an axis to different positions for further operations. The further operations take place at locations set off from the plane of movement of the cards in the graphics imager to conserve space. The indexing table is capable of being indexed to any desired rotational position in a full 360.degree. of movement, and for moving a card under positive drive to and from the index table.

  • Patent number: 5927208
Abstract: A CD printer for printing labels on compact discs print information on a CD centered on a print program center. A support for the CD is movable in one axis. The printer moves on a perpendicular axis. The axis forms a plane parallel to the plane of the disc. The CD may be centered selective to the printer program by printing on the disc a first series of lines that are radially spaced and extend from the CD center along both of the axes, and then rotating the CD 180.degree. and printing a second set of lines which are radially spaced along each of the axes but are spaced a radial distance less than the lines printed in the first printing. A vernier is established and where the lines align, the amount of offset from a centered position is indicated. Offset can be corrected by moving the tray and print head on its mounting in the respective directions to a new zero position indicated by the vernier display.
