  • Patent number: 6956860
Abstract: A system, mobile fax terminal, and method for providing fax service for mobile networks. A fax adapter receives fax data from a fax machine via standard fax protocols, maps the fax data onto Transmission Control Protocol (TCP) or User Datagram Protocol (UDP) packets, and sends the mapped data over an Internet Protocol (IP)-based interface to a mobile phone portion. The mobile phone portion maps the TCP or UDP packets onto Radio Link Protocol (RLP) frames, and transmits the RLP frames to an external radio telecommunication network.

  • Patent number: 6859465
Abstract: A method and apparatus is described for providing rate adaptation between a first node and a second node in a data communication environment employing bit stuffing and having a link budget of B bits per second. One or more N-sized frames of user data are randomized at the first node according to a predetermined random sequence to produce randomized N-sized frames which are then de-randomized at the second node according to the random sequence. N is the size of the N-sized frames in bits. Occurrences of a flag sequence related event is detected for in the N-sized frames after randomizing, and up to n bits are inserted in the N-sized frames according to a bit stuffing protocol. By performing randomizing before inserting, n and N are selected such that n+N does not exceed B. The bits are then removed such that de-randomizing can be performed. Randomizing includes combining N-sized frames with a random sequence and de-randomizing includes uncombining the N-sized frames with the random sequence.

  • Patent number: 6542521
Abstract: The present invention relates to a method for improving service level selection in a communication network system, in which an interworking function (IWF) is arranged between a user terminal (MS) and the network(s) in question, and wherein High Speed Circuit Data (HSCD) are specified, and for the purpose of making this selection in a more expedient manner and allow the user to allocate bandwidth in a more flexible and dynamic way, it is according to the present invention suggested that the interworking function (IWF) is used for signalling to the user terminal (MS) when a change in level selection may be useful.
