  • Publication number: 20030193870
Abstract: By this method of recording information on a record carrier an information volume is recorded in sectors of a track (10) of the record carrier in compliance with the CD-ROM XA standard. The information volume comprises data files (F1, . . . , F6) and control information (VD, PT, DF1, DF2, DF3) intended to be used for controlling the search for information in the recorded information volume. According to the invention the information volume in addition comprises a File Location Table (FLT2) with File Location Entries containing an identification and an address (21, . . . , 26) of the data files (F1, . . . , F6), which File Location Table (FLT2) has a size of at most one sector. This method of recording enables a relatively simple microprocessor to retrieve the information recorded, while maintaining compatibility with the CD-ROM XA standard.

  • Patent number: 6363041
Abstract: A record carrier on which information is recorded in the form of first variations caused by the presence or absence of information marks along a recording track, such variations representing an information signal. The record carrier also exhibits second variations in the form of changes in the position of the information marks in a direction transversed to the track direction. The second variations having a frequency spectrum substantially entirely outside the frequency spectrum of the first variations. The second variations are detectable by the same playback transducer which detects the first variations, and the presence of the second variations may be necessary to enable the transducer to detect the first variations.

  • Patent number: 6226244
Abstract: Playback apparatus for a record carrier on which information is recorded in the form of variations of a first physical parameter. The playback apparatus scans the record carrier by means of a transducer which is responsive to the variations of the first physical parameter. An information recovery circuit recovers the information from a detection signal produced by the transducer. The record carrier also exhibits a variation of a second physical parameter, which differs from the first physical parameter but is of a type which is detectable by the same transducer. A detection circuit detects the presence of the second variation on the basis of a further detection signal produced by the transducer. A circuit controlled by the detection circuit enables the information recovery circuit in the event that the presence of the second variations is detected.

  • Patent number: 5930210
Abstract: An information system including a record carrier and a playback apparatus. Information has been recorded on the record carrier in the form of variations of a first physical parameter. The playback apparatus scans the record carrier by means of a transducer which is responsive to the variations of the first physical parameter. An information recovering circuit recovers the information from a detection signal received from the transducer. The record carrier exhibits second variations of a second physical parameter, which differs from the first physical parameter but which second variations are of a type that are detectable by the transducer. A detection circuit detects the presence of the second variations on the basis of a detection signal received from the transducer. A circuit responsive to the detection circuit enables the information recovering circuit when the presence of the second variations is detected causing it to recover the information.

A detection circuit detects the presence of the second variations or a predetermined property thereof (e.g., that they exhibit a predetermined variation pattern) on the basis of the detection signal received from the transducer.

  • Patent number: 5724327
Abstract: A record carrier, a playback apparatus and a system including the record carrier and the playback apparatus. Information has been recorded on the record carrier in the form of variations of a first physical parameter. The playback apparatus scans the record carrier by means of a transducer which is responsive to the variations of the first physical parameter. An information recovering circuit recovers the information from a detection signal received from the transducer. The record carrier exhibits second variations of a second physical parameter, which differs from the first physical parameter, but which second variations are of a type that are detectable by the transducer. A detection circuit detects the presence of a predetermined property of the second variations (e.g., that the second variations exhibit a modulation pattern representing a code) on the basis of a detection signal received from the transducer.

  • Patent number: 5530686
Abstract: A record carrier having addressable information included thereon, including at least one track having audio information and additional non-audio information (e.g., CD-I information), and apparatus for reading and/or reproducing certain of the information included in such a track. That track includes (a) a prepart having (i) the additional non-audio information and (ii) pause information (which results in reproduction of silence) and (b) an audio part having the audio information. The additional non-audio information is located before the pause information, and the prepart is located before the audio part. The apparatus can determine whether a track of a record carrier having audio information included therein also includes additional non-audio information and/or can prohibit reproduction of the additional non-audio information.

  • Patent number: 5390159
Abstract: A record carrier (21;70) is disclosed on which a first information volume (VOL1) is recorded in sectors of a track (10), the sector positions on the track being denoted by logic sector address numbers LSN. The recorded information volume (VOL1) comprises control information (PT;DF) for use in controlling the search for information therein, the control information being arranged according to a predetermined format. A reference to the control information is accommodated in track sectors (VD1) in a predetermined address range. Following the first information volume at least a next information volume (VOL2) is recorded in the track (10), each next information volume comprising substitute reference information for use in controlling the search for information both in that information volume and in the previously recorded information volumes.

  • Patent number: 4153858
Abstract: A circuit arrangement for the demagnetization of color television receivers, in particular small battery fed receivers, comprising first switch means for charging a first capacitor immediately before demagnetization and second switch means adapted to be activated after the charging of said first capacitor for causing the capacitor to discharge through the demagnetization coil with short lasting current pulses of alternating direction. The arrangement comprises a second and smaller capacitor, which is charged and discharged by the current flowing through the demagnetization coil, this sequence being repeated in cyclic order.
