  • Patent number: 4732336
Abstract: An apparatus for treating cellulose pulp having a consistency above the flowage limit, provided with two shafts (1, 2) rotating in the same axial plane and each carrying working disks (8) the cylinders of rotation of which are in mutually intermeshing engagement in a working zone and which are driven within a housing (3) which conforms to the common cylinder-of-rotation space of the disks carried by the shafts and is provided with a pulp inlet (4) and a pulp outlet (5). The working disks on the shafts (1, 2) are constituted of a number of radially directed disks (8) in mutually cooperative positions between the pulp inlet (4) and the pulp outlet (5) for working of the pulp between the opposed surfaces (11, 12) of mutually intermeshing disks (8) the pulp being moved from the inlet (4) to the outlet (5) by members positioned asymmetrically in relation to such opposed surfaces (11, 12) carried by the housing (3) or the disks (8).

The working disks are constituted of a number of radially directed disks in mutually co-operative positions for working of the pulp between opposed disk surfaces (11, 12), the pulp being fed from the inlet to the outlet with the aid of mutually co-operating feeding screw threads (9) carried by the shafts.

  • Patent number: 4586665
Abstract: In an apparatus for treating cellulose pulp having a consistency above the flowage limit, the apparatus being provided with two shafts (1) rotating in the same axial plane and each carrying mutually intermeshing screws between which the pulp is treated during forward shift from an inlet (4) to an outlet (5) through a housing (3) enclosing the screws and supported by a mounting bed (25). The treating gap between the screws is adjustable due to the fact that the bearings (28) of at least one of the shafts (1) are supported on a cradle (29) having two end arms perpendicular to the shaft and mutually connected by a cross beam (35) extending in parallel to the shaft (1), the end arms (30) being journalled on the mounting bed (25) for swinging movement about journals (31) positioned on an axial line extending in parallel to shaft (1).

  • Patent number: 4393983
Abstract: In a refiner for treating cellulose pulp or similar material of the type comprising two intermeshing rotary screws operating in a housing having a material inlet and a material outlet, the surface of each screw comprises a feeding thread section merging into a feed-resisting surface section, the outlet being provided in a side-wall of the housing near the zone where the feeding thread sections on both screws end and the feed-reversing surface sections begin. The outlet opens into an outwardly flaring collar having a plane mouth opening oblique in relation to the direction of material discharge through the material outlet. The mouth opening cooperates with a closure element to restrict the outlet area to control working pressure conditions within the housing.

  • Patent number: 4339084
Abstract: A pulp refining apparatus of the type in which two intermeshing rotary screws are driven synchronously within a housing provided with a material inlet and a material outlet, the treated material passing from the inlet to the outlet while being compressively treated at a high dry-matter concentration between the intermeshing screw threads, has at least one of the screws arranged for pivotal swinging movement in relation to the other in a way permitting selective adjustment of the width of the treating gap between the intermeshing screw threads and selective control of the treating conditions to which the material is exposed.

  • Patent number: 4284247
Abstract: An apparatus is provided for the defibration and conditioning of nonflowable cellulosic material, comprising a housing having an inlet and an outlet and a flow chamber for cellulose material therebetween; two screws disposed in the chamber and extending from the inlet to the outlet, the screws having interdigitating helical blades with opposed pitches, and helical grooves therebetween receiving the helical blades of the opposite screws; the screws being arranged for interdigitating rotational movement in opposite directions, so as to defibrate and condition cellulosic material in the bite therebetween while carrying the material through the flow chamber from the inlet towards the outlet; at least a portion of the outer periphery of each helical blade being undulating in a plurality of successive recesses and projections, intermeshing short of contact with a like plurality of projections and recesses defining a land area in the groove of the opposite blade of the other screw, so that within the land areas in t

  • Patent number: 4199110
Abstract: Process and apparatus are provided for disintegrating waste paper containing metallic and similar particulate material appreciably heavier than the paper, and separating the heavier material from an aqueous slurry of disintegrated paper fibers and particles by centrifugal force and gravity settling, comprising disintegrating waste paper in the presence of water while imparting a vortical flow to the resulting slurry of a velocity sufficient to throw relatively heavy particulate material towards the outer periphery of the resulting vortex while lighter waste paper fibers and particles move towards the inner periphery of the vortex; establishing a relatively quiescent zone below the outer periphery of the vortex; permitting the heavier particulate material in that zone to settle out and collect; and withdrawing a slurry of waste paper fibers and particles from an inner peripheral portion of the vortex relatively free from heavier particulate material.
