  • Publication number: 20150113171
Abstract: Methods and apparatuses are provided for allocating an internet protocol (IP) address by a packet data network gateway (PGW) in a wireless communication system. A binding update message to request the IP address of a terminal, is received from a serving gateway (SGW). The IP address of the terminal is allocated. A binding acknowledgement message including the IP address is transmitted to the SGW. A dynamic host configuration protocol (DHCP) discover message is received from the SGW. A DHCP offer message including the IP address assigned to the terminal, is transmitted to the SGW.

  • Publication number: 20150113170
Abstract: Methods and apparatuses are provided for releasing an internet protocol (IP) address by a packet data network gateway (PGW) in a mobile communication system. The PGW allocates an IP version 4 (IPv4) address and an IP version 6 (IPv6) address to a terminal to establish a packet data network (PDN) connection between the terminal and the PGW. The PGW identifies a PDN type associated with the PDN connection if an event of releasing the IPv4 address has occurred. The PGW transmits, to a serving gateway (SGW), a binding revocation message, including information indicating release of the IPv4 address, with the PDN connection remaining, if the PDN type is IPv4 and IPv6. The PGW receives a binding revocation acknowledge message in response to the binding revocation request message, from the SGW.

  • Patent number: 8954558
Abstract: A method and a Packet data network GateWay (PGW) for releasing an Internet Protocol (IP) address in a mobile network are provided. The method includes allocating an Internet Protocol version 4 (IPv4) address and an Internet Protocol version 6 (IPv6) address to a User Equipment (UE) to activate a Packet Data Network (PDN) connection between the UE and the PGW; and if the UE releases the IPv4 address, transmitting to a Serving GateWay (SGW) a Binding Revocation message including an indication to release only the IPv4 address from the PDN connection to SGW.

  • Patent number: 8913987
Abstract: A method and an apparatus for providing a Quality of Service (QoS)-based service in a wireless communication system are provided. The method includes providing a Mobile Station (MS) with at least one QoS plan indicating a price policy for a QoS acceleration service having a higher QoS than a default QoS designated for a user of the MS in response to a request from the MS, providing the MS with an authorized token and a QoS quota based on a selected QoS plan in response to a purchase request of the MS, providing the MS with service contents selected by the user through a radio bearer for the QoS acceleration service, notifying the MS, if a usage of the QoS acceleration service reaches a threshold, of an impending expiration of the QoS acceleration service, and notifying the MS of the expiration of the QoS acceleration service.

  • Publication number: 20140226668
Abstract: Methods and apparatus are provided for releasing an Internet Protocol (IP) address by a Packet Data Network (PDN) GateWay (PGW) in a mobile communication system. The PGW allocates, to a User Equipment (UE), an Internet Protocol version 4 (IPv4) address and an Internet Protocol version 6 (IPv6) address to activate a PDN connection. If the UE releases the IPv4 address: the PGW identifies whether a PDN type associated with the PDN connection is an IPv4/v6, which indicates that the UE is allocated both the IPv4 address and the IPv6 address; the PGW transmits, to a Serving GateWay (SGW), a Binding Revocation message including information indicating release of the IPv4 address with the PDN connection remaining if the PDN type is the IPv4/v6; and the PGW receives, from the SGW, a Binding Revocation acknowledge message to acknowledge release of the IPv4 address.

  • Publication number: 20140099944
Abstract: User apparatus 2 in a cellular wireless network 14 comprises a user equipment 4 having a first network interface 6 comprising a radio transceiver 8 for communicating via the cellular wireless network 14. The radio transceiver 8 may be set to a first state or to a second state. The user apparatus 2 has a second network interface 10 to a second network 16. A call to the user apparatus 2 is handled by detecting, via the second network interface 10, a request to receive a communication and dependent on the detection of the request via the second network interface 10, switching the radio transceiver 8 to the second state. The communication is then received at the user equipment 4 via the radio transceiver 8. As a result, the user equipment may receive the communication via the cellular wireless network without the need for the user equipment to be continuously camped on the cellular wireless network, so that the cellular wireless network may reduce provisioning of network resources and so reduce power consumption.

  • Publication number: 20130058338
Abstract: A method of routing multicast traffic, suitable for use in a network comprising a router node connected to a first data network and to a second data network, the router node having a capability to route multicast traffic from the first and second data networks to a user equipment, is provided. The method comprises: receiving a first message from the user equipment at the router node, the first message requesting membership of a first multicast group having a first multicast address; and inhibiting receipt of multicast traffic having the first multicast address from at least the second data network by the user equipment, dependent upon a determination as to whether the first message may relate to a multicast address in the first network.

  • Patent number: 8364790
Abstract: A method and apparatus are provided for producing a decorated networking identifier at a client terminal for transmission to a server side element. The networking identifier is obtained at the client terminal. The networking identifier is appended with one or more extensible decorations at the client terminal creating the decorated networking identifier. The one or more extensible decorations are separated from the networking identifier by a first predetermined character. The one or more decorations each include a decoration sequence and an identifier corresponding to the decoration sequence. The identifier and the decoration sequence are separated by a second predetermined character. The decorated networking identifier is transmitted from the client terminal to the server side element.

  • Publication number: 20120151030
Abstract: A method for identifying whether a selective internet protocol transport opportunity (SIPTO) route is allowed to be used by at least one wireless communication unit comprises, at a core network element: storing subscription profile data associated with the at least one wireless communication unit in a home subscriber server (HSS) database, where the subscription profile data comprises an indication of whether the wireless communication unit has access rights to use a SIPTO route, and generating a SIPTO indicator for informing at least one network element that the at least one wireless communication unit is allowed to use the SIPTO route.

  • Patent number: 6944663
Abstract: One embodiment of the present invention provides a system that protects a server against denial-of-service attacks. During operation, the server receives a request for service from a client. Note that the client can be distinguished from other clients, for example, by its source IP address. In response to this request, the server sends a random number, y, and an identifier, id1, to the client, and allows the client to compute a preimage, x, such that y=h(x). Upon receiving an answer from the client including the preimage x and an identifier, id2, the server verifies that the identifier, id1, sent to the client matches the identifier, id2, received from the client. If the identifiers match, the server computes h(x), and compares h(x) against y. If h(x)=y, the server performs the requested service for the client. In this way, the server avoids computing h(x) until the server receives the answer with a matching identifier.
