  • Patent number: 8718610
Abstract: A communication terminal includes a transceiver and a controller. The transceiver receives electronic messages from another communication terminal. The controller responds to receipt of each of the messages by examining content of the message according to at least one defined rule and to control sound characteristics of an alert tune that is played through a speaker responsive to the examined message content. The controller may attempt to match text from the message to a stored list of words and/or phrases, and to control the sound characteristics of the alert tune in response to an outcome of the matching.

  • Patent number: 8625882
Abstract: A device and method for image manipulation is provided. The image manipulation may be performed as a function of a three dimensional user input and image or application specific data regarding the displayed image to be manipulated. The three dimensional input may be in the form of a two dimensional position on a touch screen and a measured force in the third dimension. The image or application specific data may be in the form of a maximum depth value indicating the maximum depth of the displayed image. The system may be configured to adjust the image based on a percentage of the measured user input force and a threshold force. The image may be adjusted based on the percentage and the maximum depth.

  • Patent number: 8270960
Abstract: A method performed by a mobile terminal may include receiving sensor data from a plurality of sensors on a mobile terminal, determining when the received sensor data satisfies a rule, transmitting information from the mobile terminal to a network device, where the information includes at least one of an application identifier, a rule or some of the received sensor data, and connecting the mobile terminal to another mobile terminal, where the another mobile terminal is selected by the network device based on the transmitted information from the mobile terminal.

  • Patent number: 8254972
Abstract: A device, method and system for handling received messages on a portable electronic device. The device includes a message handling section 12 to handle or route messages on the mobile device based upon whether the message is addressed to a port number assigned to an application on the mobile device. If the destination port number is not addressed to a port that is assigned to an application on the mobile device, and the message includes a link, then the message is opened automatically in a browser. Optionally, the link may be opened if the destination port number is within a range of port numbers or after requesting permission to open the message from the message recipient.

  • Patent number: 8078468
Abstract: A device may identify terms in a speech signal using speech recognition. The device may further retain one or more of the identified terms by comparing them to a set of words and send the retained terms and information associated with the retained terms to a remote device. The device may also receive messages that are related to the retained terms and to the information associated with the retained terms from the remote device.

  • Publication number: 20080270305
Abstract: Methods, wireless communication terminals, and queue management system are disclosed that operate electronically accessible queues, such as customer service queues. A wireless communications terminal is used to obtain a queue ticket from a ticket machine. The queue ticket indicates that a ticket client has been entered a queue associated with the ticket machine. The queue ticket is stored in the wireless terminal. The queue ticket in the wireless terminal is validated via a near-field communications protocol wireless interface between the wireless terminal and the ticket machine. Service for the ticket client is authorized in response to validation of the queue ticket and movement of the ticket client to a threshold level within the queue.
