  • Patent number: 11782042
Abstract: Contamination detection systems, kits, and techniques are described for testing surfaces for the presence of hazardous contaminants, while minimizing user exposure to these contaminants. Even trace amounts of contaminants can be detected. A collection kit provides a swab that is simple to use, easy to hold and grip, allows the user to swab large areas of a surface, and keeps the user's hands away from the surface being tested. The kit also provides open and closed fluid transfer mechanism to transfer the collected fluid to a detection device while minimizing user exposure to hazardous contaminants in the collected fluid. Contamination detection kits can rapidly collect and detect hazardous drugs, including trace amounts of antineoplastic agents, in healthcare settings at the site of contamination.

  • Patent number: 11497848
Abstract: A system to detect occlusion of an intravenous catheter may include a housing, which may include a distal end configured to couple to a proximal end of a catheter adapter and an inner lumen forming a fluid pathway. The system may also include a wave transmitter, a transducer disposed within the fluid pathway, a processor coupled to the transducer, and an indicator unit coupled to the processor. The wave transmitter may transmit energy waves along a length of an intravenous catheter of the catheter adapter. The processor may receive an electrical signal corresponding to the portion of the energy waves that are reflected back from the intravenous catheter and may determine a difference between the electrical signal and a baseline signal. In response to the difference between the electrical signal and the baseline signal meeting a threshold value, the indicator unit may alert a user.

  • Patent number: 11383074
Abstract: A system to detect occlusion of an intravenous catheter may include a housing, which may include a distal end configured to couple to a proximal end of a catheter adapter and an inner lumen forming a fluid pathway. The system may also include one or more transmitters, which may be disposed within the housing. The transmitters may be configured to transmit first energy waves along a length of an intravenous catheter at a first frequency, and a portion of the first energy waves that are reflected back from the catheter may be detected by the system. Based on the portion of the first energy waves that are reflected back from the catheter, the transmitters may transmit second energy waves along the length of the catheter at a second frequency, which may be greater than the first frequency and configured to reduce formation of blood clots within the catheter.

  • Patent number: 9743841
Abstract: A system that determines one or more sleep phenotyping parameters of a subject. In one embodiment, the system comprises a sleep sensor, a stimulus generator, and a processor. The sleep sensor generates signals that convey information related to the physiological functions that indicate the sleep stage of the subject. The stimulus generator provides a stimulus to the subject that enables information related to the sleep phenotyping parameters to be determined. The processor receives the signals generated by the sleep sensor and is in operative communication with the stimulus generator. The processor (i) determines, based on the signals received from the sleep sensor, whether a trigger condition related to the current sleep stage of the subject is satisfied, (ii) controls the stimulus generator to provide the stimulus to the subject if the trigger condition is satisfied, and (iii) quantifies the response of the subject to the stimulus.
