  • Patent number: 11078045
Abstract: An electronic safety actuation device for braking an elevator car includes a safety brake movable between a non-braking position and a braking position, a first electronic safety actuator operably coupled to the safety brake via a first link member, and a second electronic safety actuator operably coupled to the safety brake via a second link member. Operation of the first electronic safety actuator applies a force to the first link member to move the safety brake from the non-braking position to the braking position. Operation of the second electronic safety actuator applies a force to the second link member to move the safety brake from the non-braking position to the braking position.

Date of Patent: August 3, 2021
    Assignee: OTIS ELEVATOR COMPANY
Inventors: Justin Billard, Daryl J. Marvin, Erik Khzouz, Marcin Wroblewski
  • Patent number: 11066274
Abstract: The present disclosure relates generally to a selectively operable safety brake including a magnetic brake operably coupled to a rod and disposed adjacent to a metal component, the magnetic brake configured to move between an engaging position and a non-engaging position, said magnetic brake, when in the engaging position contemporaneously with motion of the machine, moving the rod in to thereby move the safety brake from the non-braking state into the braking state, and an electromagnetic component including a retention apparatus, the electromagnetic component configured to move the magnetic brake from the engaging position to the non-engaging position upon receipt of a resetting signal.

  • Patent number: 11053097
Abstract: Disclosed is an electronic safety brake actuator (ESBA) for actuating an electronic brake, the ESBA having: a first member having a proximate side and a distal side spaced in a widthwise direction, a first nominal front surface and a first rear surface spaced in a depth-wise direction, and a first top surface and a first bottom surface spaced in a height-wise direction, a plurality of side members including a proximate member and a distal member, the proximate member disposed adjacent the proximate side of the first member and the distal member disposed adjacent the distal side of the first member, the first member being magnetic and the plurality of side members being at least partially non-magnetic, and the plurality of side members including a respective plurality of nominal front surfaces including a proximate front surface and a distal front surface, the plurality of nominal front surfaces being co-planar.

  • Patent number: 10569993
Abstract: A safety brake actuation mechanism for a hoisted structure includes a housing operatively coupled to the hoisted structure. Also included is a first brake member coupled to the housing, the first brake member moveable between a braking position and a non-braking position. Further included is a retaining assembly moveable between a first position and a second position and engageable with the first brake member, the retaining assembly retaining the first brake member in the non-braking position in the first position and permitting the first brake member to move to the braking position in the second position. Yet further included is an electric actuator operatively coupled to the retaining assembly and biasing the retaining assembly to the first position in a powered state of the electric actuator, the retaining assembly movable to the second position in a non-powered state of the electric actuator.
