Abstract: The disclosure relates to a method of determining resource usage information for a facility such as an office, conference suite or bathroom; a data collection device for determining resource usage information for the facility; a data collection system; and a method for determining resource usage information for the facility. In the disclosure, resource usage data relating to a location in the facility is received via a first communications channel. A criterion associated with a predetermined usage event is applied to the resource usage data to identify usage data associated with a predetermined usage event. On the basis of the identification, data indicating the occurrence of the predetermined usage event is transmitted via a second communications channel. Thereby, the amount of data needed to be transmitted via the second communications channel may be reduced.
