Patent number: 8179071Abstract: A system includes two counter-rotating electric fans. A cooling controller is configured to run the fans at first and second operating points responsive to a measured value of a parameter. The first and second operating points correspond to first and second different required volumes per unit time of air flow. Rotational speeds of the fans at the first and second operating points define first and second different rotational speed offsets.Type: GrantFiled: October 28, 2009Date of Patent: May 15, 2012Assignee: Hewlett Packard Development Company, L.P.Inventors: Andrew J. Phelan, Erik R. Nielsen

Patent number: 7806489Abstract: Latch systems for a drive cage assembly are disclosed. In an exemplary embodiment, the latch system may be operated by moving a hinge bracket in a first direction to slide at least one latch on the hinge bracket into an open position. Then receiving a peripheral device in the drive cage assembly in either a tower orientation or a rack orientation when the at least one latch is in the open position. Then moving the hinge bracket in a second direction to slide the at least one latch into a closed position and secure the peripheral device in the drive cage assembly.Type: GrantFiled: August 5, 2005Date of Patent: October 5, 2010Assignee: Hewlett-Packard Development Company, L.P.Inventors: David A. Selvidge, Erik R. Nielsen, David W. Deis

Patent number: 6805455Abstract: A wireless remote controlled mirror having lights to illuminate a subject being viewed in the mirror, while enabling a user to selectively adjust a view of the subject from a remote location. When attached to a rear seat of a vehicle, the mirror can be remotely adjusted to view a child in a rear-facing safety seat. The mirror includes a base adapted to mount to an object, a reflective lens that moves relative to the base, one or more electric motors to drive the reflective lens, and a receiver that detects a command signal from a wireless remote controller and energizes a motor to reorient the reflective lens to view the child. A plurality of light sources are selectively energized to emit light toward the subject, so that the mirror is usable after dark. The mirror can alternatively be mounted on other portions of a vehicle.Type: GrantFiled: November 27, 2002Date of Patent: October 19, 2004Assignee: N-K Enterprises, LLCInventors: Erik R. Nielsen, John H. Moselage, Gordon Keller

Patent number: 6754074Abstract: A server, or other electronic device, includes a handle mated with the server. The server slides into and mates with a chassis. The handle is formed to provide a central opening through which visual and physical access is provided to a portion of the server, and preferably a portion of the server on which user interactive components are provided. Such components may one or more include status indicators, one or more user activated controls and one or more connectors. The opening permits the user to see the status indicators, which may comprise LEDs, activate the controls and connect an external cable to the server. The handle also is mated to the server via a hinge and a locking mechanism. With the locking mechanism is disengaged, the handle pivots away from the server. The user can then grip and further pivot the handle and pull the server out of the chassis.Type: GrantFiled: September 9, 2002Date of Patent: June 22, 2004Assignee: Hewlett-Packard Development Company, L.P.Inventors: Belgie B. McClelland, II, Scott R. Gant, Daniel T. Thompson, Erik R. Nielsen
