Patent number: 7053839Abstract: An antenna for a portable communication apparatus has a radiator with first and second ends, the first end being connected to radio circuitry in the portable communication apparatus. The antenna also has a feedback conductor having a first end that is connected to the second end of the radiator. The feedback conductor extends along the radiator in a first direction from the second end of the radiator towards the first end of the radiator. A second end of the feedback conductor extends along the radiator in a second direction from the first end of the radiator towards the second end of the radiator, for tuning the frequency of the antenna.Type: GrantFiled: June 22, 2001Date of Patent: May 30, 2006Assignee: Telefonaktiebolaget L M Ericsson (publ)Inventors: Erland Cassel, Jan Cassel

Patent number: 6680704Abstract: An antenna apparatus has a patch radiator member; a ground-plane back-up element for the patch radiator member; and a feed arrangement connecting the patch radiator member to radio circuitry. The patch radiator member has inner and outer patch portions that define a first open slot between first edges of the patch portions. A metallic wall portion connects second edges of the patch portions that are opposed to the first edges, and reflects a wave propagating toward the metallic wall portion and feeds the reflected wave toward the first open slot with a 180 degree phase reversal. A reflector-and-slot extension-metallic arm is folded over another open slot between the first edge of the inner patch portion and the ground plane back-up element to provide a 180 degree phase reversal by reflect-feedback of an outgoing wave from the another slot. The antenna apparatus can be made in small size for mounting within portable communications devices, while maintaining satisfactory operating characteristics.Type: GrantFiled: April 11, 2002Date of Patent: January 20, 2004Assignee: Telefonaktiebolaget LM Ericsson(publ)Inventors: Jan Cassel, Erland Cassel

Patent number: 6509879Abstract: The disclosure relates to an antenna. To improve transmission and reception in a mobile telephone, it has what is termed a diversity antenna. The invention relates to an antenna suitable as a diversity antenna. The antenna has a plate of insulating material with a foil coating on both sides. In the foil there are provided two slots, one on each side. The slots have meander formations or windings in order that their electric length exceed their physical length. The one slot is 1-3 % longer than the other. At one closed end of the one slot, there are connections for a supply line. The foil coatings are in contact with one another through a plate which is soldered fast on the side of the carrier at right angles thereto. Laterally in relation to the longitudinal direction of the slots, there is an earth plane. The foil coatings extend out on this, and both sides are in galvanic communication with one another. In order to increase the electric length of the earth plane, slots are provided in the foil coatings.Type: GrantFiled: October 28, 1999Date of Patent: January 21, 2003Assignee: Moteco ABInventor: Erland Cassel

Publication number: 20020030627Abstract: The disclosure relates to an antenna. To improve transmission and reception in a mobile telephone, it has a so-called diversity antenna. The invention relates to an antenna (4) suitable as a diversity antenna. The antenna (4) has a plate (20) of insulating material with a foil coating (10, 22) on both sides. In the foil (10, 22) there are provided two slots (7, 23) one on each side. The slots (7, 23) have meander formations or windings in order that their electric length exceed their physical length. The one slot (23) is 1-3% longer than the other. At one closed end (12) of the one slot (7), there are connections (13, 14) for a supply line. The foil coatings (10, 22) are in contact with one another through a plate (18) which is soldered fast on the side of the carrier (20) at right angles thereto. Laterally in relation to the longitudinal direction of the slots (7, 23) there is an earth plane (6). The foil coatings (10, 22) extend out on this and both sides are in galvanic communication (27) with one another.Type: ApplicationFiled: October 28, 1999Publication date: March 14, 2002Inventor: ERLAND CASSEL

Patent number: 6337662Abstract: An antenna for a radio communications apparatus operates in the frequency range of 800 MHz-3 GHz. The antenna has two radiating elements. The first radiating element is a slot in a substantially planar foil or disc-shaped metallic conductor. The second radiating element has a resonance frequency which is different from that of the first radiating element. The metallic conductor is placed close to a second conductor in the form of a metallic surface. The second radiating element is formed from an edge portion of the first conductor or a gap between the first and the second conductors. Capacitance devices may be disposed between the edge portion and the second conductor.Type: GrantFiled: October 28, 1999Date of Patent: January 8, 2002Assignee: Moteco ABInventor: Erland Cassel

Patent number: 6114999Abstract: An antenna device for a Mobile Phone is disclosed, wherein a distance between a miniaturized radiator and a miniaturized reflector may be shortened by means of an introduced dielectric material optimizing the electrical distance between the radiator and reflector to create a compact antenna unit having a desired cardioid shaped radiation pattern. Furthermore an additional field reducing means in the form of metallic strips is used, for example utilizing an additional dielectric layer, with at least two thin isolated metallic strips running parallel to the current edges of the reflector element to thereby form chokes at the back of the reflector, which is normally directed towards the user, to further concentrate the near-field on this side to an area in between the chokes.Type: GrantFiled: October 30, 1997Date of Patent: September 5, 2000Assignee: Telefonaktiebolaget LM EricssonInventors: Erland Cassel, Jan Cassel
