Patent number: 6096388Abstract: A time and labour saving multiple coating system for porous substrates which involves the application of a mono or poly isocyanate catalysed UV curable acrylate composition in such circumstances as to penetrate at least part of the surface of the substrate, at least a partial surface curing of the applied composition prior to any substantial degree of self curing, and thereafter applying (whether subsequent to any sanding or not) a further surfacing composition which preferably also is an acrylate composition that is both self curing and UV curable.Type: GrantFiled: January 8, 1999Date of Patent: August 1, 2000Assignee: A J Bates LimitedInventor: Robert Ernest Bates

Patent number: 5921175Abstract: An apparatus for embossing panels used in building utilises low wattage blowers to heat a zone upstream of the embossing site. Embossing is carried out by feeding a panel through the nip of an embossing wheel and an anvil roller. A track is rolled into the hard panel surface and various decorative effects are achieved by using side by side arrangements of wheels. The tendency to panel splitting is reduced by the provision of hot localised zones. The apparatus is sufficiently wide to receive the panel in both axes.Type: GrantFiled: May 27, 1997Date of Patent: July 13, 1999Inventor: Robert Ernest Bates

Patent number: 5374395Abstract: A dependable cost-effective clinical analyzer machine provides an efficient and easy-to-use diagnostics instrument and process to accurately, rapidly and automatically test and analyze samples in test packs for an analyte. In the clinical analyzer machine, remote-controlled trams transport test packs containing loading/unloading station to a processing/testing station via a carousel and vice versa. In the processing station, a special processor with mechanically-operated rollers mixing shoes, wastegate assembly, magnets, clamp plate and a thermal sealer, process samples in test packs with various reagents to detect an analyte. The carousel holds the test packs during incubation periods and rotates the tested disposable packs past an optical reader which optically senses the presence of an analyte in the sample. Bar code readers are provided to assist in identification of the test pack, patient and sample.Type: GrantFiled: October 14, 1993Date of Patent: December 20, 1994Assignee: Amoco CorporationInventors: David Robinson, Ernest Bate, Simon Kellard, Mark Watson, Donald E.
