  • Patent number: 4549734
Abstract: A multiple-duty leg exercise device is provided which includes a shiftable body-supporting pad respectively positionable in a use and a stowed position so as to permit alternate power hip or power leg exercises by the user. The pad is locked in respective positions by means of a ratchet-like mechanism including a pair of marginal, elongated apertured locking members and corresponding associated pivotal dogs coupled to the shiftable pad. The dogs include inclined forward surfaces which are successively cammed out of the aligned openings during shifting of the pad in one direction, and a trailing surface sequentially engaging the defining margins of the openings during rapid shifting of the pad in the opposite direction, in order to prevent the dogs from passing into the openings. When the pad is stopped in a desired position, gravity-induced pivoting of the dogs into the underlying locking member openings serves to lock the pad in place.

  • Patent number: 4535985
Abstract: An adjustable leg exercise device is provided which is easily configured for either a power hip, power leg, or hack squat exercise and is adaptable for safe use by athletes of different size and strength. The exercise device preferably includes a pair of parallel, spaced-apart, upwardly inclined rails each having a lowermost end secured to a floor-engaging base frame. Slidably mounted between the rails is a weight-receiving unit. Advantageously, the uppermost ends of the rails are interconnected by a yieldable structure permitting slight outward diverging movement of the rail upper ends during exercise thereby properly distributing the weight resistance to the athlete. An exercise unit positioning mechanism is included on at least one of the rails to permit adjustment of the starting position of the weight-receiving unit for accommodating various sized athletes. An adjustable bench is provided which is selectively positionable along the base frame from a use position to a stowed position.

  • Patent number: 4509746
Abstract: An adjustable leg exercise device is provided which is easily adjustable between a sitting position and a prone position, whereby the body is placed in an ideal position for exercising the quadricep muscles and hamstring muscles respectively. The device preferably includes a floor-engaging support frame and a weight-receiving exercise unit pivotally secured adjacent the upper portion of one end of the support frame. The exercise unit includes a weight-receiving structure for selectively attaching different amounts of weights, to vary the resistance to the pivoting action. Additionally, the unit also presents a pair of leg-engaging regions, the first region positioned for use in the quadricep exercise while the second region is positioned for use in the hamstring exercise. An articulated, flat, padded bench is pivotally secured to the upper portion of the frame, with the bench-frame pivotal connection located adjacent the frame-exercise unit pivotal connection.
