  • Patent number: 5186103
Abstract: To permit ready exchange of plate cylinder (13) - blanket cylinder (12) printing couples of different circumferences in a printing machine, the blanket cylinder - plate cylinder printing couple is retained in a cassette (8), with adjustment elements (282, 281, 26) to control the throw-off position of the blanket cylinder in the cassette. The adjustment elements are selectively engageable or disengageable against matching adjustment elements (284, 283) in the printing tower (9). The printing tower adjustably supports an impression cylinder (11) located above the blanket cylinder, when the cassette is installed in the tower, so that printing will be from below. Ink application rollers (361, 362, 363) are force-biassed against the respective plate cylinders, and movable in a slide path which is radial with respect to the plate cylinder of the respective diameter, under control of slide feelers (161, 162, 163) engaging a stationary ring (213) in the cassette concentric with the plate cylinder.

  • Patent number: 4925179
Abstract: A delivery fan includes a plurality of blades defining a fan pocket for receiving a signature. The plurality of blades includes two sets of blades. The blades of one set are axially equally spaced apart and define one side of the pocket. The blades of the other set are axially equally spaced apart and define the other side of the pocket. The blades of both sets of blades have surfaces for engaging opposite sides of the signature and for deforming the signature into undulations extending in a direction transverse to the direction of movement of the signature. While the signature is being engaged and deformed, the frictional contact between the signature and the surfaces in the pocket slows down the signature. This minimizes buckling and/or bouncing of the signature in the pocket.

  • Patent number: 4008664
Abstract: In a printing press, a remote control apparatus for adjusting ink keys to control ink film thickness at various lateral portions of the ink fountain has an inspection table for supporting paper printed with an image by the press and a plurality of switches mounted at the leading edge of the paper on the table. Each switch is aligned with a respective portion of the printed image corresponding to a respective ink key wich can be adjusted by the switch. A display such as a cathode ray tube simultaneously displaying the settings of all of the ink keys is combined with the inspection table and switch arrangement, with the setting of each ink key being displayed in a different horizontal location, arranged in the same horizontal order as the switches that control them. A respective portion of the display image is vertically deflected for each respective key position, with increasing deflection corresponding to increasing ink film thickness, to create an image of the shape of the ink film distribution.
