  • Patent number: 5096329
Abstract: Disclosed is an improved system for quick detection of driver impairment as evidenced by the driver's inability to keep a vehicle on an assigned course, utilizes parallel strips defining a relatively narrow lane through which the driver is to operate the vehicle. The strips and their associated equipment, are readily portable, and are thus adapted to be set up by police officers at any location desired, in a minimum amount of time, thereby permitting spot checks with little or no advance warning to motorists approaching the check point. The strips are hollow, and contain pressure chambers, the volume of which is reduced when a vehicle tire crosses or rides along on top of one of the strips. Reduction of the pressure chamber volume is adapted to carry air pressure through tubes to locations near to or remote from the hollow strips to actuate electrical switches located at predetermined intervals along and out from the traffic lane defined by the hollow strips.

  • Patent number: 4917625
Abstract: Disclosed is an electrical connector designed to be interposed between male and female plugs provided upon the ends of electrical cords. The connector includes springable arms having shoulders interengaging with shoulders formed on the adjacent ends of the plugs, in such fashion as to lockably engage the plugs and thereby prevent separation of the cords during use. Within the connector there are provided electrical connector elements each having a female and a male end, adapted to mate with the electrical elements of the plugs, thus providing a through electrical connection for the cords, while assuring that they will be held against inadvertent separation. In another form the invention omits the provision of electrical connector elements within the connecting device itself.

The strips, and their associated equipment, are readily portable, and are thus adapted to be set up by police officers at any location desired, in a minimum amount of time, thereby permitting spot checks with little or no advance warning to motorists passing the check point. The strips are hollow, and contain pressure chambers, the volume of which is reduced whenever a vehicle tire crosses or rides along one of the strips. Reduction of the pressure chamber volume is adapted to actuate switches, strategically located at predetermined intervals along the length of the respective strips. The switches in turn close circuits, when so activated, to recording devices, radar equipmet, or any other checking apparatus favored by the authorities.

  • Patent number: 4658541
Abstract: Disclosed is a planter or flower pot construction, wherein approximately semicircular planters may be arranged in horizontal courses. The planters of each course are staggered in respect to those of the next lower course in a manner similar to that in which bricks or building blocks are laid up to form a building wall. The basic planter used in erecting the wall has a straight back wall and a front wall curved through approximately 180.degree.. Alternate courses utilize end planters of quarter-circular form. The back walls of the several planters, at top and bottom, are formed with alternating teeth and notches, adapted to interlock with the teeth and notches of the next upper and lower courses. In each course, the planters have drain openings that open into the planters of the next lower course, so that when the plants are watered, excess water in each planter will drain to the next lower course to assure not only proper drainage but also maximum conservation of water.

  • Patent number: 4490592
Abstract: A magnet is mounted upon a conduit and moves radially thereof between opposite extreme positions in which it actuates a reed switch to an open or closed position. The magnet is urged from a normal position by movement of a skeletal cylinder within the flow passage to a position in which it causes the magnet to shift itself from one to the other of its respective positions. The skeletal cylinder is shifted to its magnet-attracting position by fluid flow (for example, gas, air or steam) through the passage. Means is provided to permit selection of the flow rate required for shifting of the skeletal cylinder to the position in which it acts upon the magnet.

  • Patent number: 4029399
Abstract: A mounting plate of generally semi-circular plan shape is provided and includes one straight side edge and an opposing arcuate side edge whose opposite ends converge toward the ends of the straight side edge. The arcuate side edge of the mounting plate includes outturned flange portions which terminate outwardly in inturned flange portions and the front side of the plate includes a pair of generally parallel reinforcing flanges extending outwardly therefrom and disposed at generally right angles to the straight side edge of the mounting plate and the mounting plate. The outer marginal portions of the flanges are arcuate and curve inwardly from the ends of the flanges adjacent the straight side edge of the mounting plate toward the mounting plate adjacent the arcuate side edge of the mounting plate.

  • Patent number: 4013351
Abstract: A mounting plate of generally semi-circular plan shape is provided and includes one straight side edge and an opposing arcuate side edge whose opposite ends converge toward the ends of the straight side edge. The straight side edge of the mounting plate includes a first flange extending therealong and projecting outwardly from one side of the mounting plate. The opposite or second arcuate side edge of the mounting plate includes outturned flange portions which terminate outwardly in inturned flange portions and a partial convex spherical mirror element of generally semi-circular plan shape is disposed in registry over the one side of the mounting plate with the arcuate edge of the mirror element receiving the aforementioned inturned flange portions. The outer edge of the first flange is arcuate and includes an inturned flange over which the corresponding edge of the mirror element is disposed.
