  • Patent number: 6543578
Abstract: A control system for three mechanisms of a machine may include a pair of pivotable or rotatable structures and a telescoping or longitudinally urgeable structure that are coupled to a single handgrip and contained within a single structure. The control structures may simulate corresponding structures of an aerial platform on which they may be mounted, and provide motions in the same directions of the corresponding structures. Switches are activated upon urging of a handgrip, and springs may be provided to return the control to its neutral position. An aerial platform, a crane, or any other mobile machine may employ the control device and include corresponding structure.

  • Patent number: 6170606
Abstract: A mobile machine which carries the operator of the machine is equipped with a control which has a shape, geometry and motion analogous to that of the machine and which causes machine motion analogous to the motion imparted to the control by the operator. The analog control may be applied on mobile equipment including aerial work platforms, forklifts, front end loaders, backhoes, earth movers, bulldozers, diggers, trenchers, agricultural equipment, mining machinery, and other operator controlled vehicular equipment by tailoring the shape, geometry and motions of the control to be analogous to those of the machine being controlled.

  • Patent number: 4359137
Abstract: A workman's lift platform apparatus has a vertically swingable and extensible boom with a workman's platform at the outer end. A color coding indicating the amount of boom extension is provided on the fly section of the boom, visible to the workman in the platform, and an indicator plate having corresponding color coding is provided adjacent the controls on the platform. The indicator plate in the form of a drum is driven proportionately to the angular movement of the boom by a pair of sheathed, push-pull cables, or by a sheathed torsion cable. In other embodiments, the indicator plate is tilted in proportion to the angular movement of the boom by a sheathed push-pull cable or by a parallel bar linkage. A cursor is provided adjacent the indicator plate, and is part of a gravity-operated pendulum.

  • Patent number: 4331215
Abstract: Controls for an aerial lift platform apparatus which has a steerable mobile chassis, a rotatable upper works, and an extensible boom pivoted on the upper works for luffing movement. The controls are grouped to provide a first group of control members in physical proximity to each other for controlling upper works movement and a second group of control members for controlling movement of the chassis. Each of these control members is mounted for movement substantially to simulate the movement which is controlled. A third group of control members is for controlling the engine, and are in physical proximity to each other. The control members are mounted on a control console having near-horizontal and near-vertical surfaces from which the control members extend, the vehicle control member for drive and steering extending upwardly from the near-horizontal surface.

  • Patent number: 4163208
Abstract: A tire pressure sensor is connected to a radio frequency transmitter which transmits signals to the operator station representing the condition of the vehicle's tires. The transmitter receives its power from an electromagnetic coil energized by rotation of the vehicle's wheel. In one embodiment, the coil is mounted on the vehicle's wheel and a magnet is mounted on the chassis so that rotation of the wheel energizes the RF transmitter.

  • Patent number: 4157530
Abstract: A pressure sensor connected to tire pressure and using a rolling diaphragm in an actuator having two effective operating diameters to provide a dead band corresponding to satisfactory pressure range adjusts a magnetic signal generating unit also mounted on the rotating wheel and having a ferro-magnetic shield to avoid effects of nearby magnetic materials on the field of a permanent magnet which is permitted to pass through windows in the shield to sweep selectively over two position biased magnetic sensors mounted on the vehicle chassis. The different signals of the two magnetic sensors are processed by electronics to reconstruct the pressure sensor position and display corresponding tire condition to the vehicle operator.
