  • Patent number: 4364929
Abstract: Germicidal properties are provided for colloidal lubricating gels without destruction of the physical properties of the colloidal gel by the incorporation therein of an iodophor within strict limits as to the quantities and relative quantities of the iodophor-former, the iodine and the gel-forming colloid. These germicidal colloidal lubricating gels remain stable and retain their germicidal effectiveness. As a result, these compositions can be used for the lubrication of catheters and other instruments to facilitate their insertion into a body cavity and because these compositions do not cause pain or irritation their use reduces the risk of infection and tissue-trauma.

  • Patent number: 4067974
Abstract: Choline salicylate is stabilized in solid form by means of a metal salicylate having a valence of at least 2, preferably aluminum, bismuth, calcium or magnesium salicylate. The composition is stabilized to a still greater degree by the addition thereto of carboxy-methyl cellulose. A still greater degree of stabilization is achieved by forming a complex of the choline salicylate, metal salicylate and carboxy-methyl cellulose. The complex is formed by preparing a solution of the carboxy-methyl cellulose, choline salicylate and metal salicylate, permitting complexng reaction to take place and drying. All of these stabilized forms of choline salicylate are used in solid dosage forms such as granules, tablets, capsules and supporitories for administration to animals and humans, in the course of choline salicylate therapy, to elevate the blood levels of salicylate ion.

  • Patent number: 4036951
Abstract: Alkyl esters of aminosalicylic acid, said alkyl group having from 1 to 18 carbon atoms in chain length; alkenyl esters of aminosalicylic acid, said alkenyl group selected from the group consisting of vinyl, allyl, undecenyl, oleyl and linolenyl groups, and cyclic esters of aminosalicylic acid, said cyclic group being the cyclohexyl, phenyl and menthyl groups, having ultra-violet screening properties to absorb light rays within the wave-length range of 2950 A. to 3200 A. while transmitting the light rays beyond the 3200 A. range to permit the desirable tanning of the skin without solar burn. The respective esters of aminosalicylic acid are prepared by the reduction of the appropriate nitro-salicylic acid ester with Raney nickel and hydrogen in the presence of ethyl acetate. The respective esters are obtained as oils or solid crystalline substances and are soluble in alcohols, chloroform, acetone and benzene but insoluble in water. The ultra-violet absorption spectra for the respective compounds are described.
