  • Patent number: 9682343
Abstract: Sour syngas treatment apparatuses and processes for treating a sour syngas stream are provided herein. In an embodiment, a process for treating a sour syngas stream that includes sulfur components and carbon dioxide includes absorbing the sulfur components and carbon dioxide from the sour syngas stream in a primary liquid/vapor phase absorption stage with a solvent to produce a liquid absorbent stream. The liquid absorbent stream includes the solvent, the sulfur components, and carbon dioxide. A portion of the sulfur components from the liquid absorbent stream is directly oxidized in the presence of a direct oxidation catalyst to produce elemental sulfur and a recycle stream. The recycle stream includes an unconverted portion of the sulfur components and carbon dioxide. The recycle stream is recycled for further absorption of the unconverted portion of the sulfur components and carbon dioxide through liquid/vapor phase absorption.

  • Publication number: 20140366446
Abstract: Systems and methods for gas separation are disclosed. In one exemplary embodiment, a method for gas separation includes the steps of contacting a feed gas stream that includes a product gas and an impurity gas with a liquid-phase absorption solvent and absorbing the impurity gas and a portion of the product gas of the feed gas stream into the liquid-phase absorption solvent. The exemplary method further includes the steps of subjecting the liquid-phase absorption solvent to a first reduced pressure environment to remove the portion of the product gas and a portion of the impurity gas from the liquid-phase absorption solvent and separating the portion of the product gas from the portion of the impurity gas.

  • Publication number: 20140171716
Abstract: A process includes contacting a feed stream of light hydrocarbons and an acid gas with a first solvent stream to produce a first methane-enriched overhead gas stream and a first stage solvent effluent bottoms stream including absorbed methane and absorbed acid gas. The process further includes flash separating the first stage solvent effluent bottoms stream to produce a vapor fraction including the acid gas and methane a gas-depleted liquid fraction of the first stage solvent effluent bottoms stream. The process further includes contacting the first methane-enriched overhead gas stream with a second solvent stream to produce a second methane-enriched overhead gas stream and a second stage solvent effluent bottoms stream including absorbed methane CO2. Still further, the process includes regenerating the second stage solvent effluent bottoms stream to produce a vapor fraction comprising the acid gas and a regenerated liquid fraction of the second stage solvent effluent bottoms stream.
