  • Publication number: 20140188291
Abstract: The invention provides for a controller such as a thermostat for an HVAC system having a housing having a circuit board and a display screen, the display screen having at least one alpha-numeric icon and a group of touch pads having at least two displayable touch pads. A microprocessor provided for controlling the display screen. A sole mechanical button or switch is mounted in the housing and the button has a first end and second end and a touch surface extending between the first end and second end. The sole mechanical button signals the microprocessor in order to adjust the alpha-numeric icon(s), so that the combination of inputs received by the microprocessor from the group of touch pads and sole mechanical button provide for each and every adjustment required for all of the operational functions of the controller. The mechanical button may be a rocker switch. The controller may also include a navigation button.

  • Publication number: 20140186476
Abstract: An advanced reflexive structure system is disclosed. The reflexive system mimics the pain withdrawal reflex on which the human body relies. The reflexive system incorporates a continuous health and performance monitoring system via an embedded dielectric film, an adaptive composite structure based on shape memory composite material, and an intelligence system which will be interfaced with both the health/performance sensors and the adaptive structure. When activated shape memory polymer will recover its structural integrity via shape recovery and a reptation healing process. These features enable the use of SMP as an adaptive structure in the proposed reflexive system. The development of a reflexive system for structures will enable increased safety and security and demonstrate a better understanding of integrated performance systems.

  • Patent number: 8765975
Abstract: This invention provides a process for producing dihydronepetalactone using mixtures comprising both trans-cis nepetalactone and cis-trans nepetalactone. A reaction mixture comprising trans-cis nepetalactone and cis-trans nepetalactone is first contacted with hydrogen in the presence of at least one hydrogenation catalyst under conditions that optimise the preferential conversion of trans-cis nepetalactone to dihydronepetalactone. Cis-trans nepetalactone is subsequently converted to dihydronepetalactone by contact with hydrogen in the presence of at least one hydrogenation catalyst.

  • Patent number: 8764014
Abstract: The conventional manner of play of Twenty-One is modified by having the two initial dealer cards comprising the dealer's initial hand dealt to the dealer position before any cards are dealt to any of the player positions. After the two initial dealer cards are dealt, a fifty card depleted deck is established comprising the original fifty-two card standard deck less the two cards dealt to the dealer position. The cards for each player position are then dealt from the fifty card depleted deck. After the player has received his final Twenty-One hand, the dealer's final hand is completed, also using the depleted fifty card deck. Winning and losing hands are determined according to the conventional manner of play of Twenty-One.

  • Patent number: 8767336
Abstract: A method according to one embodiment includes detecting a signal originating from at least one reader of a first outer module of a head as a tape passes thereacross, the head having at least the first outer module and a second outer modules positioned on opposite sides of an inner module and aligned with the inner module in a direction of tape travel thereacross. A first guide positioned in front of the first outer module is moved in a direction towards the tape until the signal detected by the first outer module decreases. The first guide is moved in a direction away from the tape to a position to set about a predetermined wrap angle of the tape relative to the first outer module after the signal detected by the first outer module decreases.

  • Publication number: 20140175598
Abstract: A silicon-on-insulator radio frequency device and a silicon-on-insulator substrate are provided. In the silicon-on-insulator radio frequency device, a pit is formed on a surface of a high resistivity silicon plate which is close to a buried oxide layer. The pit may be filled with an insulating material, thereby increasing an equivalent surface resistance of the high resistivity silicon plate; or no insulating material is filled into the pit, that is, the pit remains a vacuum state or is only filled with air, which can increase the equivalent surface resistance of the high resistivity silicon plate as well. In such, an eddy current generated on a surface of the high resistivity silicon plate under the action of a radio frequency signal may be reduced. As a result, loss of the radio frequency signal is reduced and the linearity of the radio frequency signal is improved.
