Abstract: This invention relates to photographic products and processes employing silver halide solvent precursors of the formulae ##STR1## wherein R.sup.1 and R.sup.2, the same or different, each are hydrogen, alkyl, phenalkyl, phenyl or phenyl substituted with an electron-donating or electron-withdrawing group; R.sup.3 is alkyl, phenalkyl, phenyl or substituted phenyl; Z is --CN or --SO.sub.2 R.sup.4 wherein R.sup.4 is branched-chain alkyl, phenalkyl, phenyl or substituted phenyl; and n is an integer 3, 4 or 5.

Abstract: This invention relates to a method of synthesizing bis-sulfones of the formula ##STR1## wherein R.sup.1 and R.sup.2 each are hydrogen, alkyl, phenalkyl, phenyl or phenyl-substituted with an electron-donating or electron-withdrawing group and n is an integer 2, 3 or 4 (a) by reacting a 1,3-dithio compound with n-butyllithium to generate the anion of said compound, (b) reacting said anion with a carbonyl compound to give the 2-substituted carbonol anion intermediate, (c) reacting said intermediate with an acyl chloride or a chloroformate to give the corresponding ester, and (d) reacting said ester with a peracid to give the bis-sulfone product. The subject invention also is concerned with the novel intermediates of step (c).

Abstract: This invention relates to 1-naphthol sulfam(na)phthaleins possessing a carbonyl moiety on the N atom of sulfam(na)phthalein ring, which compounds find utility, for example, as antihalation and filter dyes in photographic products and processes.

Abstract: This invention relates to 3-(phenyl/naphthyl)-benz[d]isothiazole-1,1-dioxides wherein the 3-phenyl or the 3-naphthyl group is substituted in the para position with hydroxy blocked with certain protecting groups. These compounds are useful as intermediates in the synthesis of certain 3,3-disubstituted-2,3-dihydrobenz[d]isothiazole-1,1-dioxide dyes which find utility, for example, as photographic optical filter agents and filter agent precursors.
