  • Publication number: 20160216930
Abstract: A method and system for deploying a display screen of an electronic personal display device. The device includes a processor, primary and secondary touch screen displays, and a memory storing instructions and an e-book, the e-book having content displayable according to a sequence of digitally constructed pages. The method comprises receiving a page transition action enacted upon a page of the e-book content rendered at the primary touch screen display, activating the secondary display screen for operation; and transitioning operation of the computing device to the secondary display screen by rendering the e-book content for reading thereon.

  • Publication number: 20160209903
Abstract: A method and system for transitioning between power states for a computing device based on ambient lighting level brightness differentials. The method comprises receiving, via the first and second ambient lighting sensors, a first and a second ambient lighting levels at respective ones of a first surface and a second surface of the computing device, determining a brightness differential between the first and second ambient lighting levels, and transitioning a power state of the computing device to an alternate power state if the brightness differential exceeds a predetermined threshold differential amount.

  • Publication number: 20160210267
Abstract: A method and system for deploying a display screen of an electronic personal display device. The device includes a processor, primary and secondary touch screen displays, and a memory storing instructions and a digital content item. The method comprises receiving a request to access the digital content item stored in the memory, identifying an e-book signature associated with the digital content item, inferring that the digital content item is an e-book based on the e-book signature, the e-book having content displayable according to a sequence of digitally constructed pages, activating the secondary display screen for operation in response to the inference that the digital content item is an e-book, and transitioning operation of the computing device to the secondary display screen by rendering the e-book content for reading thereon.

  • Publication number: 20160210932
Abstract: A method and system for transitioning operation between display screens of a computing device, with a user interface. The device further includes primary and secondary touch screen displays, an ambient lighting brightness sensor, a memory storing instructions and an e-book having content displayable according to a series of digitally constructed pages. The method comprises receiving, at a screen transition interface presented on one of the primary display screen and the secondary display screen, selections of an upper and a lower brightness threshold limits of ambient lighting, sensing a brightness level of ambient lighting, activating the secondary display screen for operation only if one of: (i) the ambient lighting brightness level exceeds the upper threshold limit and (ii) the ambient lighting brightness level is less than the lower threshold limit, and transitioning operation of the computing device to the secondary display screen by rendering the pages of e-book content thereon.

  • Publication number: 20160132464
Abstract: A method and system for re-marginating content displayed on a display screen of a computing device when upon receiving indication of an object superposed on the display screen content, a “handedness” preference of the reader/observer can be determined. In one embodiment, the content comprises display of one page in a series of digitally constructed pages. A keep out margin is calculated based on position of the object. Content is then re-flowed or line-wrapped about that keep out margin, to counteract any obscuration of displayed content. The line-wrapping of the content around the keep out margin is accomplished while maintaining a plurality of text attributes of the content. The line-wrapping forces reconstruction of a next one of the series of pages for display.

  • Publication number: 20160132470
Abstract: A method and system for repaginating content displayed on a display screen of a computing device when upon receiving indication of an object superposed on the content. The content comprises display of one page in a series of digitally constructed pages. The repaginated content is re-flowed or line-wrapped around an identified keep out boundary to counteract any obscuration of displayed content. The repagination forces reconstruction of a next one of the series of pages for display.

  • Publication number: 20160125707
Abstract: A computing device includes a display assembly having a reflective display screen with front viewing surface and a reflective back layer to reflect light entering from the front viewing surface. A housing circumvents the reflective display screen so that the front viewing surface is at least partially exposed. One or more light sources are positioned behind the display assembly such that light emitted by the one or more light sources is at least partially transmitted by the reflective back layer to the front viewing surface. A processor is provided within the housing to selectively activate the one or more light sources based, at least in part, on a state of the computing device.

  • Patent number: 9317073
Abstract: A computing device includes a housing and a display assembly having a screen. The housing at least partially circumvents the screen so that the screen is viewable. A touch sensor is provided with a portion of the housing having a different planar orientation than a remainder of the housing. For example, the touch sensor may be provided with a portion of the housing that is off-plane with the screen of the display assembly. A processor is provided within the housing to detect a first user interaction with the touch sensor, and to interpret the first user interaction as a first user input. The processor further executes one or more instructions in response to the first user input.

  • Patent number: 9292053
Abstract: A computing device includes a housing and a display assembly having a screen. The housing at least partially circumvents the screen so that the screen is viewable. A first touch sensor is provided with a first portion of the housing. For example, the first touch sensor may be provided on a sidewall, a front surface, or a back surface of the housing. A processor is provided within the housing to detect a first user interaction and a second user interaction with the first touch sensor. The first user interaction corresponds with a user making contact with the first touch sensor, and the second user interaction corresponds with the user releasing contact with the first touch sensor. The processor further executes a first set of instructions in response to detecting the second user interaction.

Abstract: A computing device includes a housing and a display assembly having a screen. The housing at least partially circumvents the screen so that the screen is viewable. The computing device further includes a set of touch sensors to receive user input. A processor is provided within the housing to detect the user input via the set of touch sensors, and to cycle a brightness of the screen of the display assembly in response to the user input. For example, the brightness of the screen may correspond with a contrast level of the screen and/or an illumination intensity of one or more light sources used to illuminate the screen.
