  • Publication number: 20090218066
Abstract: The invention relates to a wash which is suitable, in particular, for centrifugal casting. The wash comprises at least: a carrier liquid; at least one pulverant refractory material; at least one thickener; and a metallic nucleating agent which can initiate crystallization of the metal used for casting. The invention further relates to a process for producing a casting and a casting mold which comprises a mold coating produced from the wash of the invention.

  • Patent number: 4643768
Abstract: An inoculant alloy based on ferrosilicon or silicon for the manufacture of cast iron with lamellar, compact or spheroidal graphite is described, this alloy comprising(a) between 0.1 and 10% of barium and/or zirconium,(b) less than 2% of aluminum and(c) 0.3% of calcium. This inoculant alloy is distinguished by particularly good suppression of the precipitation of carbide and by its preparation process which is industrially simple and thus has favorable costs.

  • Patent number: 4540436
Abstract: The present invention provides a treatment agent for cast iron melts based upon ferrosilicon magnesium with a silicon content of from 40 to 80% by weight and a magnesium content of from 0.5 to 15% by weight, said agent being in the form of granules with a specific surface area of from 0.2 to 0.8 m.sup.2 /g. according to BET.The present invention also provides a process for the production of this treatment agent, wherein a jet of molten ferrosilicon magnesium alloy is directed on to a bounce plate made of fire-resistant material and the melt droplets which bounce back from bounce plate are allowed to solidify in a liquid-filled collection receiver.
