  • Patent number: 6183216
Abstract: The invention concerns an arrangement for conveying thick matter, in particular liquid concrete. The arrangement comprises a pump (12) which is to be charged on the input side with thick matter to be conveyed, and a distributor (10) which can be connected via a high-pressure feed line (20) to the pressure joint (30) of the pump (12) and preferably takes the form of a tunnel shuttering distributor. The high-pressure feed line (20) is connected both on the pump side and the distributor side to a pipe-switching device (22, 24) which can in each case be switched alternatively between two connections (26, 32, 40, 44). The pump-side pipe-switching device (22) is connected at its one connection (26) to the pressure joint (30) of the pump (12) and at its other connection (32) to the pressure joint (36) of a pressure medium pump (16) which can be acted upon by low-viscosity pressure medium via a reservoir (18).

  • Patent number: 4270593
Abstract: A method of changing the cross-sectional format of a strand when continuously casting strands by using a mould, involves at least one mould side wall which is displaced relative to an opposite mould side wall and has its inclination changed. According to the method the displacement of the mould side wall during casting is effected by step-wise changing of the inclination in a manner that, in a first step, the upper or lower rim region of the mould side wall is displaced in one direction, and, in a second step, the opposite rim region of this mould side wall is displaced in the same direction.

  • Patent number: 4234036
Abstract: In an arrangement at a continuous casting plant including at least two mold cavities, a common distributing vessel for supplying melt into each mold cavity through an outflow opening that is closeable by means of a stopper, via a casting pipe reaching from the distributing vessel to the mold cavity, a shearing means including a shearing head and a sealing plate following upon the shearing head is provided. The shearing means is movable by an adjustment drive from a waiting position beside the casting pipe into a closing position covering the outflow opening by the sealing plate, on simultaneous shearing off of the part of the casting pipe projecting at the outer side of the distributing vessel, by the shearing head.

  • Patent number: 4015655
Abstract: A process and an apparatus for continuously casting strands of unkilled or semi-killed steel having a product of [%C] .times. [%O] that is less than 0.002, preferably less than 0.0015 due to deoxidizing prior to casting, a carbon content of between 0.02 and 0.20%, an Al content not exceeding 0.01% and a Si content not exceeding 0.05%, wherein the steel is cast from a tundish through a casting tube that is immersed in the mould and flush gas is introduced into the casting tube and moved on together with the steel which leaves said casting tube via two lateral, upwardly inclined openings. The ascending gas bubbles are deflected by means of a guiding plate and move through a gap formed between said guiding plate and the walls of said mould, flushing out CO-bubbles forming at the front of solidification and thus providing for an edge zone that is free from blow-holes.

  • Patent number: 3989093
Abstract: A continuous casting plant for slabs, comprising a water-cooled mould from which the strand is continuously extracted, a supporting and guiding means having rollers for guiding the strand between them, and a cooling device having nozzles for spraying a coolant, in particular water, onto the strand and the rollers, has a part of the cooling device formed by flat jet nozzles arranged parallel to the surface of the strand. The longitudinal axes of the nozzles are parallel to the axes of the rollers, and two flat jet nozzles are arranged between neighboring rollers. Advantageously, the flat jet nozzles are arranged within the area defined by the slab edges of the slab sizes to be cast in the plant, and advantageously they are arranged opposite and toward each other. Furthermore, the flat jet nozzles can have nozzle openings in opposite directions, each opening pointing toward the slab edges.

  • Patent number: 3935895
Abstract: The present invention relates to a continuous steel casting method for a casting capacity of more than 1.5 metric tons of steel per minute. In this method a vertically arranged, substantially rectangular mold is used, into which at least one steel stream containing inert gas is passed through a casting tube below the surface of the casting level in the mold. The casting tube is provided with lateral downwardly inclined outlet openings, whose axes lie in a vertical plane running through the larger transverse axis of the mold. The axes of the lateral outlet openings run at an angle which depends upon the perpendicular distance of the axes from the narrow side of the mold. The inert gas is supplied in an amount of 1 to 15 Ncm.sup.3 /kg steel, preferably 3 to 8 Ncm.sup.3 /kg steel, to the steel stream over its entire cross section at the place of origin above the mold. The invention is of particular advantage for slabs wider than 800 mm of aluminum-containing steel.
