  • Patent number: 4903622
Abstract: Apparatus for guiding and braking elastic or nonelastic bands during sewing to pieces of fabric has an elongated flat housing of rectangular cross-sectional outline with a transversely extending channel for a band. The housing is separably affixed to the table of a household sewing machine and contains a reciprocable slide which can alter the effective width of the channel. The slide is installed at one side of the channel, and the housing supports an adjustable fabric guide at the other side of the channel. A plate-like biasing member is installed in the channel at a level above the band, and the biasing member can be moved up or down by a screw having a knurled head so as to select the force with which the underside of the biasing member bears against the upper side of the band.

  • Patent number: 4899677
Abstract: The upper side of the sole plate in a sewing machine presser foot is formed with a transversely extending channel for the median portion of a guide which steers the needle during making of a row of stitches adjacent the edge of a marginal portion of a piece of fabric. To this end, the guide has two end portions which extend laterally beyond the respective sides of the sole plate and have downwardly bent tips one of which slides along the edge of a piece of fabric when the sewing machine is in use. The guide can be moved longitudinally to place its end portions at selected distances from the respective sides of the sole plate. A male detent member on the sole plate normally engages a selected graduation of a notched scale on the central portion of the guide to maintain the guide in a selected position. The tips of end portions of the guide are located at a level slightly above that of the underside of the sole plate.

  • Patent number: 4884519
Abstract: A bobbin case wherein a cylindrical wall which surrounds the thread bobbin supports an externally mounted spring having a pan-shaped portion for a disc-shaped thread tensioning member provided with a flat thread-contacting surface which confronts a complementary portion of the external surface of the cylindrical wall. The bias of the spring upon the tensioning member, and hence the force with which the surface of the tensioning member urges the thread against the adjacent portion of the external surface of the cylindrical wall, is adjustable by a screw. The tensioning member is tiltably installed in the pan-shaped portion of the spring so as to adjust its inclination relative to the adjacent portion of the external surface of the cylindrical wall in dependency on the position of the thread.

  • Patent number: 4731868
Abstract: Reception or non-reception of a signal is detected on the basis of whether or not a certain noise level is reached at the receiver output. Measuring periods are formed, during each of which the charge of a capacitor changes from a fixed value to a value dependent upon the momentary noise. The time from the beginning of the measuring period until a certain state of charge is reached is compared with a reference time, and a receive criterion is produced when the time dependent upon the noise is shorter than the reference time. The reference time may be obtained in a manner similar to the way in which the first-mentioned time is produced. When both times are thus obtained in an analogous manner, not only the presence but also the absence of a signal can be detected much more rapidly than heretofore.

  • Patent number: 4466369
Abstract: A double lever is provided having a forward arm which is operatively connected to a collar of a presser bar and a rearward arm which is connected via a linkage to an operating lever. A guide arm is articulated to the rearward arm and carries an index pin guided within a parallelogram-shaped inherently closed cam route. A spring-loaded swivel arm including a detent catch is associated with the lower cam section of the closed cam route. Upon light pressure being exerted on the operating lever, the detent catch locks the index pin in a position wherein the presser mechanism lies in close proximity to an uppermost lifted position. By additional pressure being exerted on the operating lever, the index pin moves passed the locking position. With the subsequent release of the operating lever, the presser mechanism returns to the lowered position.
