Abstract: Components for transmitting ATM cells related to Internet data packets are additionally integrated in an ATM communications system for transmitting data and data packets packed in ATM cells for ATM communications networks which are formed by ATM communications systems. The complete integration of the Internet transmission function into ATM communications systems results in effective traffic and network management of ATM cells related to Internet data packets with a very low level of integration complexity.

Abstract: Transmission of the message packets according to asynchronous transfer mode ensues separately on at least two completely different transmission paths having ATM switching equipments (ASW1 . . . , ASW2 . . . ) or ATM cross-connectors (ACC1 . . . , ACC2). An acquisition of test message packets transmitted at the transmission side and switched on the different transmission paths ensues on the basis of an interface controller unit (CCU) located at a respective subscriber of the network. Compensation is provided of the differences in running time of the message packets caused by the different transmission paths on the basis of the reception points in time. One of a plurality of identical message packets transmitted on the different transmission paths is output to a subscriber.

Abstract: Two-stage, at least doubled ATM reversing switching network having (2n.times.2n) switching matrices. For expanding a two-stage, doubled ATM self-routing reversing switching network, the switching matrices of the B switching stage can be respectively doubled in one redundancy level after another without interrupting operation given a simultaneously, respective halving of the plurality and filling of duplex link groups formed from the very outset and proceeding between A-switching stage and B-switching stage, of which duplex link groups only duplex links of one and the same group of links are occupied for every connection lasting during an expansion of the switching network.

A method for expanding a three-stage, stretched and at least doubled ATM self-routing switching network, the switching matrices of the second switching stage can be respectively doubled in one redundancy level after another without interrupting operation given a simultaneous, respective halving of the plurality and filling of link groups formed from the very outset and proceeding between the first switching stage, the second switching stage and the third switching stage, of which link groups only links of one and the same group of links are occupied for every connection lasting during an expansion of the switching network.
