  • Patent number: 6495093
Abstract: The invention relates to a device for closing a tap hole of a metallurgical vessel, in particular a converter, for the purpose of separating a molten metal and slag, having a slag stopper 1, which is situated outside the vessel, which provides an actuable closure element 8 that can be inserted into a tap hole, leaving an annular gap relative to the wall of the tap hole, and which provides a number of lines, in particular a pressurized-gas line 10 intended for the supply of the closure element, the slag stopper 1 comprising a connecting frame 2, which carries and fixes the parts of the slag stopper, this connecting frame, for its part, being secured releasably at a connecting point 11 on the metallurgical vessel 12. This allows a significant reduction in the time required for servicing or changing the slag stopper.

  • Patent number: 6379608
Abstract: In a method for closing and opening a tapping hole of a metallurgical vessel, in which method a closure body (4), which leaves clear an annular gap between the closure body (4) and the wall of the tapping hole, can be moved out of a waiting position (I) into a closure position (II), in which it covers the tapping hole, and back, and in which method, at least in the closure position (II), a pressurized gas is introduced into the tapping hole counter to the outflow direction of a molten material contained in the metallurgical vessel, in order to avoid skull formation, the closure body (4) is moved out of the waiting position (I) into the closure position (II) and back with directions of movement which lie in different areas.

  • Patent number: 5090622
Abstract: In an arrangement for supplying media to a blowing lance for a metallurgical vessel including a blowing lance arranged on a lance carrier, a connection piece of the lance carrier connected to at least one media supply duct is pressable at a counter connection piece of the blowing lance such that the media supply duct is sealingly connectable to a corresponding medium channel of the blowing lance. In order to ensure the tight connection between blowing lance and lance carrier in a sinmple manner and without manual manipulations, a displacement means including a seat for the blowing lance is provided on the lance carrier to move the counter connection piece from a released position into a coupled position and vice versa. The displacement means is movable by a driving device, which presses the counter connection piece against the connection piece in the coupled position, selflockingly and positively fixing the displacement means in the coupled position.

  • Patent number: 4951928
Abstract: A blowing lance to be used for the treatment of metallurgical melts includes a lance head having several expansion tuyeres directed to the bath level of the melt and penetrating a front plate of the lance head. They depart from at least one lance channel, which is peripherally surrounded by a supply channel and a return channel for a cooling medium. The supply channel is separated from the return channel by a flow deflection piece arranged above the front plate and penetrated by at least one connecting channel connecting the supply and return channels and provided for the cooling medium.
