  • Patent number: 5693606
Abstract: The described compounds of the general formula A, in which the wavy lines mean .alpha. and .beta. configuration and R.sub.1 and R.sub.2 mean hydrogen, methyl or ethyl groups ##STR1## are new and useful as odorants or components or mixtures of odorants or perfume oils. Their production in a method known per se, involves oxidation of isolongifolene obtained from longifolene to isolongifolane, which is then equilibrated with base extraction and/or reduced to isolongifolan-3-ol and this is then reacted with a symmetric acetal of the formula R.sub.2 --OCHR.sub.1 --O--R.sub.2, in which R.sub.1 is hydrogen or methyl and R.sub.2 is methyl, ethyl or propyl.

  • Patent number: 5492887
Abstract: It was found that 8-exo-formyl-2,6-exo-tricyclo[5.2.1.0.sup.2,6 ]decane having the constitution and stereochemistry of formula (I) possesses particularly useful olfactory properties which are clearly superior to those of the 8-endo-epimer and which already have an effect if compound (I) is enriched with mixtures of 8-exo- and 8-endo-epimers. Compound (I) can therefore be advantageously used, in pure or enriched form, as a scent or as a component of perfume compositions. To prepare an enriched epimer mixture, a mixture obtained in a known manner (U.S. Pat. No. 3,270,061) and having an exo/endo ratio of 1.45:1 is brought into equilibrium by base catalysis, preferably by the action of alkali hydroxides in alcoholic solution, to give an exo/endo ratio of 5.25:1. Alternatively, the enriched epimer mixture can be prepared starting from 8-formyl-2,6-exo-tricyclo[5.2.1.0.sup.2,6 ]decene-3(4), catalytically hydrogenated for example with palladium coal and then optionally brought into equilibrium.

  • Patent number: 5426095
Abstract: The cyclic Isolongifolanone ketals of the general formula A wherein the wavy lines mean .alpha.- and .beta.-configuration and R,R' mean radicals of hydrogen, methyl or ethyl, are new. With preference they are used either as odorants or as components of perfume compositions. They are manufactured from Isolongifolene which is itself produced from Longifolene as is well known. Isolongifolene is oxydized to Isolongifolene-3-on and this is reacted with aliphatic 1,2-diols in apolar solvents with the separation of water.

  • Patent number: 5294602
Abstract: The 3-(hexenyloxy)-propane-nitriles of general formula A, in which R.sup.1 and R.sup.2 are optionally a hydrogen atom or a methyl group and R.sup.3 is an unbranched hexenyl group, are new and are useful as odour materials such as ingredients for perfume compositions. Their production is carried out through the base catalysed addition of acrylonitrile or methyl substituted acrylonitrile to the unbranched hexenol, in which the reaction temperature is between 0.degree. and 50.degree. C. (for acrylonitrile especially between 0.degree. and 10.degree. C., for crotonitrile especially between 15.degree. and 25.degree. C. and for methacrylonitrile, especially between 30.degree. and 40.degree. C.), and the aforesaid base is benzyl trimethylammonium hydroxide (Triton B).

  • Patent number: 4753924
Abstract: 4,4,7-trimethyl-3,4,7,8-tetrahydro-2(6H)-naphthalen-one is obtained by an elimination reaction from 3-oxo-.alpha.-ionol by way of direct addition thereof to a solution of a protonic acid in an inert solvent at an elevated temperature, or following its conversion into a low-carbon alkyl ester, particularly acetate, by way of the treatment of the latter, preferably with sodium acetate, in a polar non-protonic solvent at 150.degree.14 300.degree. C., wherein the output can be increased by raising the temperature of reaction. The product of the process is suitable, in pure form or as mixed with simultaneously produced 3,5,5-trimethyl-4-butenylidene-cyclo-hex-2-en-1-one, as an odiferous substance or as a fragrant substance for foods and tobacco.
