  • Patent number: 5105663
Abstract: A method and apparatus for measuring low fuel level in a fuel tank having a fuel pump with an anti-slosh pot supplied with fuel from a predelivery pump in the fuel pump. Fuel measurement is effected by sensing delivery of air to the anti-slosh put by the predelivery pump when the fuel level in the tank is low, and measuring the amount of fuel in the anti-slosh pot when delivery of air is sensed. The amount of fuel measured in the anti-slosh pot accurately represents the amount of fuel remaining in the fuel tank.

  • Patent number: 4940397
Abstract: A fuel pump includes a connecting pipe having an open end disposed at the lowest point in a pressure chamber supplied with fuel by a pressure valve. The connecting pipe is connected to a mixture-former and the pressure chamber has in its upper region a ball valve with a return line which leads to a fuel tank. The pressure chamber can have a cavity establishing the lowest region thereof, the open end of the connecting size being disposed in the cavity. A filter can surround the lower end of the pipe to filter the fuel supplied thereto.

  • Patent number: 4917069
Abstract: A fuel pump is mounted on an engine to reduce heat transmission therefrom by a construction in which the housing of the fuel pump is formed at its base with an annular flange with a relatively small diameter which rests on the engine around on opening therein for the operating rod of the fuel pump. The housing of the pump is secured to the engine by a holder which has a shelf bearing on the flange and which includes a depending perimetral flange secured on the engine by a bolt at the distal end of the holder.

  • Patent number: 4403925
Abstract: A pneumatically operated diaphragm fuel pump comprising a ram actuated by a diaphragm and arranged in a drive chamber and a reversible lever subjected to the action of a tension spring for actuating suction and air-inlet valves. The lever is locked with respect to the ram for a given range of stroke of the ram and switching takes place only at the dead center positions of the diaphragm.

  • Patent number: 4281586
Abstract: A pneumatically actuated adjusting device, particularly for throttle flap adjustment on mixture-compressing combustion engines, with a diaphragm held between a housing upper portion and a housing lower portion. This diaphragm forms a vacuum-charged working chamber with the housing upper portion. With the housing lower portion it forms a chamber open to ambient atmosphere. A guide bushing projects from the housing upper portion on the atmosphere vented side of the diaphragm and is rigidly connected to it. The diaphragm is also rigidly connected to two concentric spaced diaphragm plate pairs. The outer diaphragm plate pair is connected to a pipe moving inside the guide bushing. This pipe has one or several recesses, with a ball in every recess. Indentations in the guide bushing have diameters corresponding to the ball diameter, with the depth determining the stroke of the first adjustment stage. The inner diaphragm is rigidly connected to a control piston inside the pipe. This control piston has a recess.

  • Patent number: 4199535
Abstract: A diaphragm pump operated by vacuum pressure and having a switching arrangement to control the continuous alternations between the intake stroke caused by vacuum pressure and the working stroke caused during venting by a spring after the end of each stroke. The switching arrangement consists of a crack-open valve between vacuum pressure chamber and a space continually connected to atmosphere, and a plunger, fastened to the diaphragm; the length of the plunger is variable through a spring clutch. The special action of the switching arrangement is based on the fact that the plunger requires a larger force for cracking the valve than afterwards for keeping it open. This is accomplished by having a differential pressure, act in the closing direction on the valve, and eliminating this force after opening, causing the spring-loaded plunger to extend to its full length and to keep open the valve during the entire working stroke of the diaphragm.

  • Patent number: 4009700
Abstract: A control arrangement for effecting the reconveyance of exhaust gas over a larger engine operating range, while concurrently constructing the control to be more sensitive and better correlated with any particular thermal and/or mechanical operating condition of the internal combustion engine. The arrangement includes a multiple-position valve located in the conducting path of the control conduit, which is so located and constructed whereby the control pressure chamber of the control pressure chambers of the adjusting device are selectively subjected to a gas pressure and/or atmospheric pressure present in the intake conduit of the internal combustion engine upstream and/or downstream of the dosing arrangement for the combustion air or, respectively, the provided fuel-air mixture, or in the path of an accumulator associated with the control conduit.
