Abstract: An apparatus for mixing molding sand which comprises a mixing vessel having a mixing tool disposed within the mixing vessel, the mixing tool comprises an elongated shaft having a plurality of blades arranged along the elongated shaft wherein each of the plurality of blades comprises two opposed identical blade portions fitted to each other by a form fitting connection at a location adjacent the elongated shaft. The form fitting connection includes a groove and a lug on each of the opposed blade portions wherein the lug on one of the opposed blade portions engages the groove on the other opposed blade portion. The groove and lug form in part a peripheral surface of a polygonal recess on the form fitting connection which surface abuts the elongated shaft of the mixing tool when the opposed blade portions are secured to the shaft.

Abstract: A mixing vessel with a rotatable drive member for driving a mixer through a coupling mechanism such that the mixer orbits or revolves about a first axis (A) while at the same time rotates about a second axis (B) disposed radially of and substantially parallel to said first axis (A). The mixer rotates about axis (B) at a rotational speed of between 200 to 1,000 rpm while orbiting about axis (A) at a rotational sped of between 20 to 200 rpm. A second mixer in the form of a mixer plow is fixed to the rotatable drive member for rotation about axis (A).

Abstract: An apparatus for producing sand mold employing compressed air comprises a sand molding apparatus for use in making sand molds by employing compressed air. The apparatus includes, in the preferred embodiment, a pattern plate carrier having a top surface for supporting a pattern plate thereon. A molding box is positioned on the top surface of the pattern plate carrier and surrounds the pattern plate so as to define between the pattern plate and the interior surface of the molding box a peripheral area on the top surface of the carrier. Vents are provided on either the peripheral area define above or the pattern plate or both and extend around the pattern plate for allowing compressed air which is injected into the molding box during compression of the molding sand to escape on the pattern side of the molding box. A chamber is defined within the carrier beneath the pattern plate and is communicated with the vent structure by means of bores.
