  • Patent number: 5322435
Abstract: A self-locking orthodontic bracket having a body with an archwire slot, and a locking slide member which is movable to open and close the slot. Archwire retention is provided by the slide member without use of conventional ligatures or tie wires. A resilient member is provided to retain the slide member in either the open or closed position, while preventing excessive sliding movement which could disengage the slide member from the bracket body.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: May 6, 1993
Date of Patent: June 21, 1994
    Inventor: Erwin C. Pletcher
  • Patent number: 4559012
Abstract: An orthodontic bracket assembly with a locking member rotatably mounted on a slotted bearing member configured to receive an arch wire. The locking member is rotatable to capture the arch wire in the bracket assembly. A detent is provided to secure the locking member in a closed position.
    Type: Grant

  • Patent number: 4522590
Abstract: A wire ring which can be fitted over tie wings of an orthodontic bracket, and then twisted into tight engagement with the bracket. A resulting twisted tail of the ring provides a hook and eyelet for anchoring auxiliary appliances such as springs or elastics to the bracket. If fitted over an arch wire engaged in the bracket, the ring also provides secure ligating of the arch wire to the bracket.

  • Patent number: 4419078
Abstract: An orthodontic bracket assembly with a locking member rotatably mounted on a slotted bar configured to receive an arch wire. The bar is integrally formed with a base of the bracket assembly. The locking member rotates on the bar to capture the arch wire in the bracket assembly.

  • Patent number: 4371337
Abstract: An orthodontic bracket assembly with a rotatable locking member anchored to a base by a slotted bar configured to receive an arch wire. The bar is initially rotatable with respect to the base, and is then fixed in a position providing any torque angulation which may be needed for tooth alignment. The locking member rotates on the bar to capture the arch wire in the bracket assembly.

  • Patent number: 4077126
Abstract: An orthodontic bracket assembly having a locking member rotatably mounted within the body of a bracket member. The bracket body defines an arch-wire slot, and the locking member includes a hollow hub with a slotted portion which is rotatable into alignment with the arch-wire slot so an arch wire can be seated in both the body member and the hub. Rotation of the hub closes the arch-wire slot to lock the wire in place.
