  • Patent number: 4680848
Abstract: A machine for safely cutting a hole in a pressurized main pipe wall within an attached branch pipe, without requiring temporary main pipe clamps or permanent branch line valves and fittings. The pipe tapping machine is clamped to the branch pipe, providing a temporary seal and self-centering hole cutting guide. A valved port is provided to leak or proof test the branch pipe and sleeve prior to cutting and vent fluid after the hole is cut. Inserts can be provided to adapt to various branch pipe sizes. A hole segment retainer can also be provided to minimize downstream damage to the main pipe. Handles, ratchets and stops are provided to quickly tap the main pipe without damage to the opposite wall.

  • Patent number: 4589895
Abstract: A dust trap for trapping particles such as dust in a gas pipe between a street tap and a diaphragm type regulator comprises a dust bag for trapping the dust and a retaining member for holding the dust bag in the pipe. The retaining member is of deformable material and has an outer portion of increased diameter for force-fitting the member in the pipe, and a neck portion over which the end of the dust bag is placed and securely held, for example by an outer sleeve fitted over the neck portion.

  • Patent number: 4586408
Abstract: A tool for chamfering the ends of plastic pipe of various diameters comprising a main body having various concentric circular grooves of different diameters which are shaped and sized to receive the square-cut ends of standard size plastic pipe. Each circular groove has an associated cutting blade mounted transversely with respect to the circumference of the pipe in a recess on the outer surface of the main body and positioned so that as the tool is rotated about the square-cut end of a pipe inserted in its correspondingly-sized groove, a chamfer is cut on the outer circular edge of the pipe. During the chamfering process, cuttings cannot enter the pipe because the open end of the pipe is covered by the tool and cuttings leave the tool through the recess. Cutting automatically ceases when the pipe end becomes seated in the groove.

  • Patent number: 4542892
Abstract: A machine for use in the fusion fitting of a branch, T- or saddle junction to a pipe, comprises a first clamp for holding pipe and a second clamp for holding the fitting in the correct orientation to the pipe. A manually-operated sliding plunger arrangement allows the second clamp to be moved towards or away from the first clamp by way of a manually operated device. The second clamp can be locked against retraction from any one of a plurality of positions relative to the first clamp, and is adapted to be loaded towards the first clamp in its locked positions during the fusion process when a fitting engages a pipe or a heating tool is held between a pipe and fitting. The shaft which controls the movement of the second clamp has a pivoting extension or plunger terminated by a handle, which can be folded upward. Pins mounted at selected intervals on the plunger cooperate with a loading plate during the downward movement of the plunger to urge the second clamp either toward or away from the first clamp.
