  • Patent number: 11577734
Abstract: The disclosed embodiments include a onboard driver distraction determination system. The determination system includes a onboard sensing and computing system(s), which includes inertial sensor(s), internal sensor(s), and external sensor(s). The onboard system samples data from the sensor(s) during a driving session to determine steering activity metrics and driver behavior. A steering activity metric is a representation of the steering inputs by the driver during the driving session. Driver behavior is a representation of how distracted the driver is during the driving session. By performing the above mentioned steps, the system can provide an analysis of driver distraction and optionally, take control of the vehicle to avoid aberrant behavior.

  • Patent number: 9387878
Abstract: A target-travel-path generating circuit calculates a target travel path along which a controlled object can travel in the future from a current controlled object position. An ideal-control-signal calculating circuit calculates a control profile to travel along the target travel path, and a difference calculating circuit calculates a difference between an ideal control magnitude and a current control magnitude. A controller controls an operation system based on a magnitude of the difference to assist a control operation and a control-operation-state of an operator, an environment-state, and a required operation-precision. The operator receives assistance corresponding to the magnitude of the difference from an ideal control state, the control-operation-state, the environment-state, and the required operation-precision. An outputted control-operation assistance control is suitable for conditions that characterize the operator state, the environment, and the controlled object.

  • Patent number: 7200481
Abstract: A vehicle driving assist system of the present invention detects a vehicle condition and a traveling environment of a subject vehicle; and calculates an extent of influence on the subject vehicle due to future changes in surrounding environment. The vehicle driving assist system then calculates the risk potential around the subject vehicle based on the extent of influence. Operation reaction force of an accelerator pedal is controlled according to the risk potential thus calculated.

  • Patent number: 6061610
Abstract: A steering angle sensor monitors the steering angle of a vehicle as the vehicle is driven. The steering angle signal is input to a processing device which generates steering angle prediction errors based on the received steering angle. The processing device then generates a distribution of steering angle prediction errors. The distribution of prediction errors is compared to the distribution of steering angle prediction errors representing load-free driving. The comparison represents the driver's workload.
