  • Publication number: 20170318470
Abstract: A shared spectrum network device in a higher-tier network may include one or more processors configured to receive information provided from a lower-tier network, estimate, based on the information, interference to the higher-tier network from one or more transmitters of the lower-tier network, compare the estimated interference to a threshold value, and identify a geographic zone in which transmission by one or more transmitters of the lower-tier network is limited based on the comparison.

  • Publication number: 20170055193
Abstract: A communication device is described comprising a transceiver configured for communication according to a wide area network radio access technology and configured for communication according to a local area network radio access technology, a detector configured to detect whether a frequency range is unoccupied and a controller configured to control the transceiver to, if the frequency range is unoccupied, transmit data according to the local area network radio access technology to occupy the frequency range until a communication starting time according to a frame structure of the wide area network radio access technology and to control the transceiver to start communication using the frequency range according to the wide area network radio access technology at the communication starting time.

  • Patent number: 6990362
Abstract: A communication unit (10) can have at least a first receiver (11) and a second receiver (12). The latter typically consumes more power than the former during ordinary operation. Pursuant to one embodiment a communication unit can use the lower-power receiver to detect energy on a monitored channel while the second receiver is retained in a reduced power mode of operation. Upon detecting an absence of channel activity the second receiver can be restored to normal operability to effect such activities as are then presently required.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: December 16, 2003
Date of Patent: January 24, 2006
    Assignee: Motorola, Inc.

  • Publication number: 20040203828
Abstract: The invention provides for dynamic channel/capacity assignment within an 802.11 wireless data communications network (10) consisting of several access points (20). The access points are linked to each by inter access point channels 11. Each access point 20 has an associated local coverage area 13 which services roaming terminal devices 14 or local 802.11 stations. The invention allows for increased throughput between the access points or between an access point and local stations within the local coverage area of the access point (20) by allowing additional channel capacity to be dynamically re-assigned. The invention provides a degree of quality of service for multimedia traffic transfer in wireless networks such as the 802.11 based extended service set.

  • Publication number: 20030031129
Abstract: A method (30) of packet flow admission control for a network with a shared communication medium. The method (30) is effected by receiving a packet flow request (31) including a requested transmission rate and a requested performance level. Steps of determining a total transmission rate (32) and maximum performance level (33) are followed by a step of identifying a maximum allowable transmission rate (34) associated with the maximum performance level and associated with a number of active nodes including currently active nodes and requesting node. A step of comparing (35) then compares the total transmission rate with the admission boundary and the flow request is admitted (36) in if the total transmission rate does not exceed the admission boundary.
