  • Patent number: 9917921
Abstract: Systems and methods for facilitating creation of service provider accounts and configuration of devices associated therewith. Device parameters (306) are transmitted (700) from a device (302). In response, a service activation server (206) provides (308) a list of available service providers for that device (302), where the list is derived (702) using the device parameters to identify the appropriate available service providers. The device (302) enables the user (300) to select (704) a listed service provider(s), and communication is redirected (706) between the device (302) and the selected service provider (208) to enable the creation of the service account. The device (302) can then be configured for use with the established service account. Where a service account already exists for the user (300), the user (300) can provide a service-related identifier (506) from which the service activation server (206) can identify an appropriate service account to be configured for use on the device (302).

  • Publication number: 20070226632
Abstract: A method, electronic device and computer program product are provided for extending the functionality of an electronic device phonebook or list of contacts. In particular, certain configurable routines or sets of instructions associated with and unique to respective contact entries in the contact list are generated and embedded, or included, in the entry. When a user selects the contact entry from his or her contact list in order to establish a connection with the corresponding contact (e.g., to initiate a voice call with the person or to send an Instant Message (IM), Short Message Service (SMS) or Multimedia Messaging Service (MMS) message, or E-mail to the contact), the electronic device will detect the presence of the routine and will execute the instructions prior to or instead of establishing the requested connection.

  • Publication number: 20060229054
Abstract: Providing assistance to a user of a mobile device involves sending a signal from the mobile device to a help service computing arrangement via a network to initiate a help session. Device-specific data of the mobile device is sent via the network and targeted for a help database. A session identifier is associated with the device-specific data via the help service computing arrangement. A voice connection between the user and a help agent is established and the session identifier is provided to the help agent. The device-specific data is accessed by the help agent from the help database using the session identifier for purposes of providing the assistance.

  • Publication number: 20040009777
Abstract: The invention relates to a method and an arrangement for upgrading a target device via a wireless connection. Upgrade is executed by exploiting a wireless personal communications device (101) as a gateway between the content provider server (104) and the target device (102). A DRM scheme may be applied to said method for limiting the usage of transmitted content. The content may be encapsulated in a SMS or MMS message. A wireless personal communications device (101) capable of executing the presented method can be used e.g. as a personalization tool for downloadable sounds to be reproduced by a target device (102) such as a toy.
