  • Patent number: 9182362
Abstract: A radiation detector assembly and a method for using the same are provided. The radiation detector assembly includes an aperture, a window covering the aperture, the window is configured to permit radiation to pass through, the window is configured to prevent the passage of fluids and particles through the aperture, and a protective device covers the window. The protective device includes a plurality of holes at least partially aligned with the aperture, is configured to permit at least some radiation to pass through the holes, is configured to prevent objects larger than the holes to contact the window and is configured to withstand external forces and prevent those forces from damaging the window.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: April 19, 2013
Date of Patent: November 10, 2015
    Assignee: BRUKER AXS HANDHELD, INC.
Inventors: Esko Juhani Kantonen, Erkki Tapani Puusaari, Heikki Johannes Sipila

  • Patent number: 7443959
Abstract: An X-ray fluorescence analyzer device comprises an X-ray source and a sample window. Between the X-ray source and the sample window there are a collimator plate with a plurality of microscopic pores and an annular plate comprising material essentially opaque to X-rays. The annular plate defines an area transparent to X-rays. The pores in said collimator plate let through collimated X-rays radiated by said X-ray source towards said sample window. The area transparent to X-rays in said annular plate spatially limits in a transverse direction a beam of X-rays radiated by said X-ray source towards said sample window.

  • Patent number: 7020238
Abstract: The measurement head (101) of an X-ray fluorescence analyzer device is protected against heat from a hot target by using an adapter (201). It comprises a sheet of material having low thermal conductivity and has a three-dimensional shape that follows the form of a front part of the measurement head (101). Said sheet of material is attached to said measurement head (101) and has a central part (401) which defines an opening (202) coincident with a radiation window (109) in said measurement head (101). Said attachment means (204, 205, 301, 302, 311, 312) are located at a part of said sheet of material that is distant from said central part (401).
