  • Patent number: 10308863
Abstract: A method of producing fluid from a formation containing hydrocarbons in which an aqueous polymer preflush fluid is injected into the formation followed by injection of an aqueous polymer displacement fluid, where the aqueous polymer preflush fluid has a total dissolved solids content that is greater than the total dissolved solids content of the aqueous polymer displacement fluid.
    Type: Grant

Date of Patent: June 4, 2019
    Assignee: SHELL OIL COMPANY
Inventors: Leonardus Bartholomeus Maria Wassing, Esther Christianne Maria Vermolen, Mark Theodoor Looijer, Bartholomeus Marinus Josephus Maria Suijkerbuijk

  • Publication number: 20150107840
Abstract: The present invention is directed to a process for producing oil. The mass action ratio (MAR) of divalent cations to monovalent cations of water from an oil-bearing formation is determined, and an aqueous displacement fluid having a total dissolved solids content of from 200 ppm to 5,000 ppm and a MAR of divalent cations to monovalent cations of from 70% to 130% of the MAR of divalent cations to monovalent cations of the formation water is introduced into the formation. Oil is produced from the formation after introducing the aqueous displacement fluid into the formation.
